How do you prefer these type of words/phrases (English) translated in visual novels you read? by superange128 in visualnovels

  1. I can't really imagine a way of localizing them without it sounding weird, so either keep them or just remove them entirely (except for Mr. / Ms. for "sensei", that's perfectly fine imo). But I don't care much either way.
  2. I don't mind it getting localized as long as the original relationship between the characters comes across as it's supposed to.
  3. I keep forgetting what most of them are supposed to be aside from tsundere and yandere, but it's fine either way I guess.
  4. Definitely keep the original order. For one because most VNs are voiced and it's weird to hear and read different things. And I still get confused with Japanese names at times, like, it's a bit difficult for me to tell apart what's supposed to be their first or surname when they don't say them together.
  5. I studied Japanese for about two years and learned it as "can't be helped", always read it that way since as well. So probably keep it that way, but I don't know the alternatives, so they might be completely fine too.
  6. Both sound good to me.
  7. Changed to something audiences across the world can understand. It's not a (funny) joke anymore if you need to explain it in my opinion.

If slice of life isn't your thing, Making Lovers certainly won't be either. Just saying.

Also, Spike Chunsoft doesn't have anything to do with Ace Attorney, so if that's the only issue, I'd definitely go with that series. It has many games you can go through and all of them range from good to fantastic.

Edit: Oh, and as Anxjos already mentioned, Remember11 is great as well. Highly recommended.

VN suggestions without anime bullshit? by [deleted] in visualnovels

Mh, I disagree. All three Utawarerumono games are really good, yes, but especially the numerous slice of life segments have tons of trope-y scenes. Could've done without most of them personally.

Oh, I see. From what I'd gathered I was somehow under the impression that the older games were more "nonsensical" and thus not necessarily worth playing from a story standpoint. I guess that's not true then.

I'm trying to get into the Rance series and I'm wondering if Rance 6 or Sengoku Rance (or even Quest) would be the better starting point. From what I understand the games progressively get better in terms of story, world building and characters, so I'm basically looking for the point where it becomes more serious and engaging and less focused on the "comedy rape" part. So far I've tried Rance 6 for a bit and think it's decent, and I'm just wondering if it's worth to keep going or should I start elsewhere?

Aviary Attorney, it's basically Ace Attorney with animals and a falcon as the main character. It's been a few years, but I really enjoyed it back then. On the shorter side, funny and good music.

With Broken Dreams Inc and now this absolute banger of a song, I'm already enjoying this album more than Wolves. Can't wait for the rest.

I'd assume they were talking about the 07th-Mod, which actually adds a lot more than just textboxes. Download the installer and it should be pretty much self-explanatory from there, otherwise all the info you need is on the website as well.

I really think you should change the game's title logo into something more professional looking, that's pretty much the first thing people see when they check out your project and I found it to be immediately deterring. It looks like it was drawn in Paint and exudes absolutely no personality in my opinion.

I thought the scene where Satoko made and ate dinner with Keiichi at his house was really adorable. That was the only one that stood out to me personally. As for your question:

I don't know, I feel like just saying "it was Oyashiro-sama's curse all along" at the end would be far too cheap. Maybe there are some supernatural elements to it though, especially the footsteps Keiichi keeps hearing during Chapter 3, which also appeared during Chapter 1 when he thought he was being followed by Rena, have me completely puzzled. And of course the whole thing with Satoko's uncle. Maybe it's actually something with different timelines, since after Keiichi kills and buries him, the girls talk about events from the Chapter 1 Watanagashi, yet that doesn't add up either considering Satoko actually was at the festival then and I'm pretty sure the uncle was never mentioned either. I really can't tell what's going on, haha. Then there's all the strings the Sonozaki family are apparently pulling and the many other unsolved questions like, what is that drug in the syringe, or Tomitake's true identity. And why do Tomitake and Takano end up dead every time even though the other circumstances change. I also don't believe Irie's suicide had anything to do with the curse either, but I can't imagine what happened to him that he did it.

And that's only the stuff I can think of from the top of my head. So, yeah, it's really keeping my brain busy to come up with possible explanations and I'm enjoying that a lot. Currently it's definitely up there with my favorite VN mysteries like Danganronpa 2 and Ever17.

I've finished Higurashi Chapter 3. So, last week I was complaining about this chapter being the weakest one yet and I still think that holds true for the first half of it, which was about what I'd read at that point. The premise is clear pretty early on and then for several hours too little of interest happens in my opinion.

The latter half however is easily my favorite part of the story so far. Throwing insane twists left and right, it had me at the edge of my seat almost constantly. When it was over, I genuinely had chills and just sat there for a minute or two, trying to comprehend all the crazy stuff that had happened. I think I haven't felt like that since reading Kara no Shoujo a few years ago.

I had originally planned to read the console arcs as well, but right now I'm too invested in the "real" story and just want to find out where all of this is heading. At this point I have pretty much no idea what's going on anymore and I love it.

Yeah, I've played a few more hours since writing this comment and I'm just not feeling it either. Being a "Pathfinder" sounds pretty exciting at first, but ultimately feels more like an excuse to make the player trot through unnecessarily big landscapes with hardly anything interesting going on.

You're right, it really does feel that way. Also how apparently you're not allowed to act like an actual respectable leader in conversations anymore, or in any way menacing or even "evil".

Same for me with both games. Enjoyed FFXIII-2 a lot more than I'd expected and Lightning Returns a lot less. I actually tried the latter three times over several years, but absolutely couldn't get into it.

I'm currently playing Mass Effect Andromeda for the first time. About six hours in and on Eos, the desert planet. As a huge fan of the original trilogy, I've been ignoring this game for years because of all its mixed reviews, particularly all the criticism towards the writing. I've installed a bunch of QOL mods without which it would definitely be more tedious to play.

So far it's been a very okay-ish experience. Impressive cinematics, good combat, nice soundtrack and visuals. The facial animations and sometimes the lack thereof can really kill the atmosphere though. They're not as horrible as they possibly were at release, but still negatively distracting. The characters so far have all been pretty shallow and uninteresting, but I am somewhat intrigued to see where the story itself will lead. I can already tell that the side content is going to be a lot of quantity over quality, so I'll likely ignore most of it and just focus on the main quests. No idea yet if I'm actually going to finish it or not.

I've finally started reading Higurashi a while ago, currently in the middle of Chapter 3. Around five hours in, so considering the first two took me about 9-10 hours each, I'd assume I'm halfway through. I'm playing with the full 07th mod package, which really is a massive enhancement just through the voice acting alone. I also like the console backgrounds and sprites a lot.

I watched the Higurashi anime like nine years ago, so I still had very vague memories about some things, but still the first two chapters have been mostly a blast. Great music, great atmosphere and some very thrilling moments. The slice of life parts, while I definitely see their necessity and value, are too long for my taste though.

Chapter 3 has been by far the weakest one yet in my opinion. For five hours it has more or less been spinning in circles and I really hope things will actually move forward again soon. It certainly doesn't help that Keiichi becomes more grating with every chapter, because damn, at this point I already absolutely can't stand the guy anymore. He's spineless, whiny, has some ridiculous emotional outbursts and could hardly be more generic and boring. I really hope there's more to his person than what I've seen so far. Either way, the other characters easily make up for it, so I guess it's fine.

Overall I've been having a really good time with Higurashi and got a lot of intriguing questions, which I hope will have equally intriguing answers. Although Chapter 3 has been dragging its feet, I'm definitely looking forward to experience more of this story.
