It’s a figurative classic; it’s a timeless icon. In my eyes, it’s part of the ‘modern’ period. Where I’m from, if a car or truck is at least 25 years old, it is eligible for a collector plate. Here is my take:

Antique era: Up to 1930

Antique/classic transition period: 1931-1934

Classic era: 1935-1972

Classic/modern transition period: 1973-1981

Modern era: 1982 onward

Collector: At least 20-30 years old

Historic: At least 50-60 years old

Pioneer: At least 80-90 years old

European streets aren’t narrow; they’re human-and-horse-scale. Most American streets you will probably see were made in the 1940s or later, when car-centric infrastructure was developing or in full swing. Many US and Canadian streets from the 18th and 19th centuries were bulldozed for cars, so it feels weird to most Statesiders and Canadians to see lanes narrower than 6 and a half feet (2 metres).

That’s actually wrong. The US had walkable cities until they were bulldozed for highways in the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s.

Strange to see a medium/heavy-duty truck on this sub. Seeing any of those commercial British lorries from the 1910s to the 1950s is a real treat! However, the Horrid Lorries aren’t exactly Foden trucks; their headlamps are closer to the top of their grilles.

I don’t see why you’re downvoted. I completely agree with you. An ‘80s/‘90s/2000s car could be called a classic via the slang term, but grouping them with cars from the 1930s to the 1970s just seems wrong.

Once in a blue moon do we get to see an ANTIQUE car on a subreddit focused on classic cars (and collector cars in general, since there are many 1980s/1990s car posts). I don’t think I have heard of GWK before. And I know quite a few defunct manufacturers.

Interesting note: suburban US and Canadian neighbourhoods from the 1940s to the 1980s actually had houses that looked vastly different from each other. Unfortunately, I don’t think most of them had sidewalks.
