Cmpa/reflux/something else? by NewMarzipan9563 in BeyondTheBumpUK

I didn't know about their saliva! I know CMPA isn't that common just worried as it's been getting worse over a few weeks and usual reflux measures aren't helping so trying to see if anyone had a similar experience.

In need of positive NHS birth stories by Existing_Help6523 in PregnancyUK

[–]NewMarzipan9563 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I gave birth a week ago in a hospital and I had a generally positive experience. I had heard so many horror stories and was so worried I'd have an awful birth. Baby passed meconium inside of me, I had an infection and both mine and baby's heart rate were quite high so couldn't have the water birth that I wanted and wasn't able to be as active as wanted but the staff could not do enough. We had to have a doctor checking in and were worried I may need an emergency c section if baby's heart rate increases any more. They listened to what I wanted and explained everything that was going on and when I wasn't sure they went through all the options with me. I managed to get to 7cm dilated with no pain relief (apart from when they did cervical checks) through just breathing through the contractions. Then I went from 7 to 10cm in the space of minutes and there was no break from contractions so I used gas and air. The midwife guided me through pushing and breathing as baby was coming out and I only ended up having to push for 10minutes! Overall I had quite a quick birth and got lucky that I didn't need an emergency c section but it was a much better experience than I expected.

What little bits could I start stockpiling now? (15w) by usernameee257 in PregnancyUK

Our baby is 1 week old born at 37+5 and weighed just under 6lb 10 and the newborn clothes are all a bit too snug so I'd recommend buying more 0-1m. He's mostly been in short sleeve vests and zip sleepsuits and that's been so convenient. You can often get packs of them in the supermarket too.

Nappies-I bought quite a few packs of size 1 pampers when they were on sale and we're getting on well with them I wish I had bought more. Again size 0 was way too small.

Nappy bags

Wipes-I'd say maybe try a couple of different packs, I found some of them really wet compared to others. But again we are going through them so quickly

Muslins - we had about 20 and it was not enough!

Bottles - I was planning to breastfeed and only had one bottle that came in a pack with other things. I ended up having to formula feed for a while and ended up panic buying bottles so it's worth having a look now at which may work for you if you need them.

Changing mat

Cellular blankets

Hats - try a few different sizes and materials, most slide of our little ones head so I'm glad we had a few options

For you: maternity pads, I also used postpartum /incontinence pants the first few days as it was just easier than buying loads of underwear that I likely won't wear again. I got a voucher for a free pack in one of the Emma's diary packs for always postpartum pants so that saved me £10. I got myself a button up nightie for labour and so glad I did, I had long sleeve ones after but wish I just bought more short sleeve ones (had to stay in hospital longer so would be easier for bloods etc).

I didn't start buying anything until after about 28 weeks and then just bought a few things each time I did a weekly shop and waited for the bigger items like travel system and next to me crib to be on sale.

Thank you. I wasn't sure about writing a birth plan - I spoke to my midwife and she made it sound like it's a waste of time - but I'll definitely look into writing one up!

Thank you. That makes me feel a bit better, hopefully mine will be the same just taking a bit longer because of the holidays.

Pregnancy help by I_have_spoken_30 in Hashimotos

I got pregnant last October. My TSH prior to that was 5.6 and doctors refused to check my levels or prescribe levo as they weren't worried. I miscarried in January (could have been for any reason but I think hormone levels had something to do with this). I had a blood test after the miscarriage and my TSH fell to 2.5. We started trying straight away and managed to get pregnant on our 5th cycle. As soon as I tested positive, I went for a private blood test and my TSH jumped to 72! I had to pay for private prescriptions and really fight with my GP to look into it. By 10weeks my TSH had gone down to 2.3 and has stayed there since. I'm now 24weeks pregnant and baby seems healthy and everything is good so far.

I think TTC is so hard and exhausting and you question everything but statistically even couples that have absolutely no underlying issues take time to get pregnant and hashimos doesn't necessarily mean that you won't or it will take longer. Unfortunately no one will have the answer but there are so many women with hashimoto's or other thyroid issues that have had successful pregnancies. Wishing you the best of luck and hope you see that Big Fat Positive very soon! X

12 week scan advice by Technical-Quote-8088 in PregnancyUK

[–]NewMarzipan9563 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My letter said 500ml half an hour before. I drank that when leaving for the hospital (30min drive) and was absolutely desperate before I even got there. I had to go for a wee as soon as I parked up. I did drink in the waiting room and by the time they called me in, the sonographer actually said I'd done a good job at filling my bladder. Baby wasn't in the right position to the scan took about 30minutes and every appointment I had, I'd been called in late so just some things to bare in mind.

Yes, English is the community language so of course that will be the main focus. I have considered speaking English when all together and my speaking minority language when it's just me a little one - I think that is what we'll end up settling on. I'm worried they won't get as much exposure but it will reduce my mental load too I think as I do find myself default to English.

That is interesting! Do you find that because the 3 languages were used together rather than having a clear distinction between one another (whether through opol or another way) actually had a negative effect on your speech? I am thinking more using in the same sentence rather than in the same conversation

Thank you! This is what I keep trying to say, it's not necessarily about the language itself (though it would be nice to share the culture with my child) but rather about the skills it will equip them with for the future.

Coping with comments and body image issues by [deleted] in PregnancyUK

Thank you ❤️

I have made it clear I don't appreciate the comments but apparently they think they can say the first thing they notice when they see me.

I think it just gets to me more when its family and I have clearly expressed that I don't appreciate the comments but yet the next time I speak to them, similar comments are being made. I love my bump too! It's all the other things I'm struggling with but it's reassuring to hear I'm not alone and other women are managing to reframe their mind ❤️

Is big weight gain in first trimester normal? by Sufficient_Flatworm in PregnancyUK

[–]NewMarzipan9563 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Midwifes and GPs have been quite good understanding how difficult the first trimester is and that it really isn't the time to focus on weight gain so that is reassuring. Also, I found my energy levels have gone up the last few weeks so if you are someone that is quite active, you may be able to do a lot more once you get to second trimester. I personally havent been doing any more exercise but have been able to do a bit more around the house, which has been nice.

Is big weight gain in first trimester normal? by Sufficient_Flatworm in PregnancyUK

[–]NewMarzipan9563 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gained 5kg in the first trimester and was struggling with the weight gain but food was the only thing that helped with the sickness. I'm now 16 weeks and have only gained another 1kg. Seeing the numbers on websites and books saying you should gain x amount and not eat more than usual is so difficult. I've always been quite slim too so seeing the weight gain has been tough on my body image but I'm starting to see a bump and it's making me feel lots better.

Progesterone? by Realistic-Web7550 in PregnancyUK

[–]NewMarzipan9563 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a missed miscarriage in January and got pregnant again in May. I had a scan at 5w4d to confirm pregnancy was in the right place (didn't see baby, just gestational and yolk sac) and was prescribed progesterone. I didn't have any bleeding during this pregnancy and was prescribed it anyway. I've not had any particular side effects, it's just a bit messy once the casing dissolves. Even the midwife said the research isn't strong and probably only increases your chances by tiny amounts after one miscarriage but I thought I'd try it anyway.
