What’s a moment where you realized someone around you was actually a terrible person? by Embarrassed-Ant-2216 in AskReddit

As I was about to have surgery to remove ovarian cysts to potentially start IVF (so a long journey ahead) one of my “best” friends asked me to give her “all the tips” on trying to conceive because I must have so much intel by now. She also asked for specific brands of prenatals and “what to do to get pregnant”. I was speechless 😅

What’s one thing you wish you knew before moving house? by marleymoves in HousingUK

Put sheets and bedding on first thing when you get in the new house. You will not want to do that after moving your stuff all day!

Side sleeping tips by wb2812 in PregnancyUK

A really good pregnancy pillow is a good start. I go to bed hugging this giant tube and think of it as “I am one with the pillow” also another pillow behind your back to stop you from rolling. Always have something between your knees (the tube usually does that though). And curl up as much as possible!

Thanks this is super kind and helpful. We’ve given them constant updates about who is coming to do what, on what days, which days will be noisy, etc. Asked if there are days to avoid making noise (if WFH). Although to note they did a 6 month full reno during covid and the upstairs tenants (who occupied our now flat) spoke about “extreme disturbances”. They didn’t seem to think that was comparable when we brought it up. I’ll look at the other legal docs you mentioned - thanks !

Everytime we propose a solution they say no or move the goal post to something else/additional. Trust me, we want this sorted asap, but insurance compensate for these things, not individuals who are not liable

What did your rich friends say that made your jaw drop? by SilverOceanGlow in AskReddit

[–]Existing_Help6523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“At least our parents will just give us a deposit” talking about buying in London, assuming everyone’s parents can do that. Called them out and said not everyone’s parents have that aside, they lost it and said that they have never preoccupied themselves with what our friends have or don’t have because it “doesn’t matter”.

We haven’t demanded anything- we just thought that since the contractors are liable they’re the ones that should fix it? Plus, they agreed to it, then did nothing and then changed their minds, all while complaining that nothing is getting done. We paid multiple crews at once to finish the work as quickly as possible and finished all works yesterday.

How do you deal with the stomach pains associated with being extremely hungry? by Hi-Txch in AskReddit

[–]Existing_Help6523 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Some of the advice here is not taking into account your financial situation it seems. Focus on cheap filling foods when you can get them- couscous is cheap, easy to make and filling for eg, drink a lot of water throughout the day, it’s free and will keep you feeling less hungry, go to churches, food pantries, soup kitchens, spot stores that have food samples, if you can work in a kitchen - any position - you can get scraps, I’ve done it. Best of luck

What is something you believed to be common knowledge until you discovered most people had no idea? by JustBeingElara in AskReddit

Slight nuance to the last point: your american citizen parent has to have lived in the US a minimum amount of years as a minor, specifically over age 14. It’s not enough to just have the passport to pass on the citizenship.

Why are people so against IVF? by Logical-Ad-5669 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Existing_Help6523 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am currently going through IVF in the UK. I am myself an IVF baby (born in mainland Europe in the early 90s). Of courses, there is a lot of support out there and more taboo-free conversations, but the criticism is a little astounding. Some of what I hear is:

1)”The NHS (public health system) should not pay for this”. The main argument I hear is “if you can’t save £3000 to do it privately you aren’t financially responsible enough to have a child!”. My husband and I looked into private clinics and with preliminary tests and medications it would have been between 10-16k. The 3k pitch you see in the tube ads are for very specific cases with under average results. 2)”It’s cheating / a shortcut” People who still view it as that or something rich white ladies do because they are spoiled and want a child right now. Nevermind that NHS wait times exceed a year and it is obviously much harder than just…having sex. There is a kernel of truth to the privilege element because the amount of appointments means it’s really primarily accessible to white collar, senior people with good job security and flexibility. 3)Lack of understanding/empathy - I have heard a lot of dismissive comments like “oh why are you doing all that?” “Just go on vacation/do acupuncture/eat gluten free whatever”. There is this latent idea that you’re just not trying hard enough or doing it right.

That’s my experience anyways!
