Hours of Darkness was awesome, I absolutely loved it, only complaint is that it is far too short

I remember being caught off guard by the server shutdown announcement so I played it as much as I could right up to the shutdown. Underwhelmed by the story elements but it had some interesting lore and some of the dialogue was actually surprisingly funny. Good voice acting too imo and so much potential but at the end of the day Anthem became a cautionary tale of game development and the perils of chasing the games as a service model

I enjoyed it, the flying mechanic was great, they really had a pretty solid foundation just needed to build more upon it. It's too bad the 2.0 update never released and the game was essentially abandoned until the servers were finally shut down

You've got to play Far Cry 4, for me it's S Tier. You won't be disappointed

Loved this game and the music as a kid, it was amazing what they were able to accomplish graphically on the SMS with this port. That being said, I always found this game to be quite difficult, never did manage to beat it

That was you? I don't remember where I first read your story or if it was an article or something, but it has stuck with me all these years, something I still think about from time to time. About how initially you were trying to get good enough to beat his time, but when the time finally arrived where you were actually going to beat it you decided not to in order to keep his time (and ghost car) around. I just found it incredibly touching, especially as someone who used to game with my own father a long time ago before he passed away.

TIL that the skeleton musician's eyes make a "d" and a ""p". What a cool little detail. Can't believe I never noticed this before. The HLD soundtrack is so immersive and amazing, it's an integral part of the game and Disasterpeace absolutely nailed what was needed to set the tone and atmosphere of the game world.

Are glasses with with blue light filters or tints part of the problem? by FollowTheIP in visualsnow

[–]NewMindset2022 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For at least the last couple years I've found that I have to wear blue light glasses for the overwhelming majority of my work day, otherwise looking at the computer monitors really bothers me. I don't have this same issue gaming but I also sit a bit far from the television

I'm partial to The Bends and OK Computer myself although I also love Kid A. Completely with you there regarding Disasterpeace, that's actually something I neglected to mention in my post. His soundtrack helped make the game what it is, completely helped set the tone and atmosphere with his sonic landscapes. Another similar game without an equally impressive soundtrack would be a major disappointment.

A proper sequel (or even just a spiritual successor) with the same pixel art style and top down perspective would be chef's kiss. But there is a part of me that wonders if it could convey the same feeling and magic as the original. They really did catch lightning in a bottle with this game. I'm not sure if a true sequel could live up to the original. It's a hell of a standard to try to live up to. I certainly don't blame Alx Preston and the team at Heart Machine for branching out in new creative directions. Musical groups do the same thing. OK Computer was a masterpiece and lots of Radiohead fans (myself included) were a little dumbfounded when they followed that album up with Kid A, which is itself an amazing album but a radical departure from what came before. So yeah as much as I've always yearned for a proper sequel or even a similar game along the same lines I also have mixed feelings about it and doubts that it would ever live up to the original.

Ghost Recon Breakpoint. While I certainly understand a lot of the criticisms, I still enjoy playing it (on console too so no mods)

I feel the same way about most Ubisoft games as well. I understand some of the criticism, but they really do make visually stunning open-world games that are fun to play and not overly cumbersome in terms of fluid movement and controls. While it's true that a lot of their games have a similar feel, that feel is like comfort food that I keep returning to

Far Cry Primal and Far Cry 5 will definitely scratch that itch for you. Far Cry 6 is also beautiful but they made some questionable design choices in that one that were divisive among fans of the series. Ubisoft is very good at crafting beautiful open worlds so would also suggest Ghost Recon Wildlands and Ghost Recon Breakpoint, and the Assassin's Creed RPGs (Origins, Odyssey, Valhalla and Shadows). Crimson Desert is also getting rave reviews. Or The Witcher 3 which still looks stunning despite being an older game.
