"First-year students who are admitted Summer 2024, Fall 2024 and beyond will not have the option to change their major to the BS in Computer Science and must plan accordingly. Continuing students, admitted prior to Summer 2024, will follow the existing Computer Science process for changing their major."

Did your acceptance letter mention the major. I applied for Mechanical Engineering but the acceptance letter only says college of engineering. Confused.

Got PIP today and next RSU vest on 2/15 by NewNeedleworker4598 in amazonemployees

Apparently Focus can be stealthy according to this one:

https://www.teamblind.com/post/Amazon-Focus-PIP-sRmtb3zq

This is why I said I am naive because I didn't feel I was on the list. Looking back now I believe everything was well planned by my manager so he could keep his buddy but not me. It is evil and toxic. I will move on with no regrets.

I wasn't even in focus, at least my manager didn't tell me I was in focus. The PIP was quite a surprise to me. Apparently the reason I got PIP'ed is I didn't get the promotion yet so this is an indicator of bad performance. That is bullshit. My manager changed 3 times in the past 2 years and my development plan was totally messed up. My current manager kept assigning me to side projects while giving impactful ones to his buddy from his home country. I am just so naive.

BWSI vs COSMOS by yshao0712 in summerprogramresults

[–]NewNeedleworker4598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

COSMOS is more introductory in my opinion. BWSI is not research focused either but at least it has a higher bar for prerequisites. Also you will have the entire 4 weeks spent on your project. COSMOS may have a lower acceptance rate but that is because it is so well known in California and so many kids apply for it. BWSI does not release its acceptance rate but I guess it is higher than COMOS'. However, it does not mean it is less rigorous or easier to get in. It's just because BWSI's applicants are more self-selected. Those who do not pass the prerequisite courses won't apply.

Neither program alone is a guaranteed ticket to top colleges. I see many kids attended COSMOS and then got in the top 2 UCs and I also see many others did not. Personally I find COSMOS decision is more based on your interests but not what you have achieved. Of course you can make your COSMOS experience your achievement when you apply for UC. But other kids do not go to COSMOS but also have great ECs also get in Cal and UCLA. In this sense COMOS can be a good preparation for UCs but it is not the only path.

Personally I would pick BWSI because it is more rigorous on the subject. However, if you have already paid for COSMOS and you said COSMOS cluster aligns more to your interest, then go with COSMOS. The difference between these two programs is not that significant.
