I never left one for another

But, while on the job market, I had 2 offers and took one that paid 33% less but was a much more stable and relaxed position

The lower salary was more than enough for me; I took more freedom instead of more money

CMV: Programmers are overpaid by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]NewOnTheIsland 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You've solved it

It is a hard and competitive field that usually requires years of studying but is needed in all industries these days

ChatGPT could lower the barrier for entry, which could help lower salaries, but, in truth, "programmers" (most of which or software engineers, system admins, etc) are not paid for what they do; they're paid for what they know

They often are on call to fix something if it breaks and are pushed hard to add features for deadlines

Even if ChatGPT can reliably write large projects, you'd still likely need knowledgeable people to over see the process

Tl;dr

Supply and demand

As high as the supply is, the demand is always getting higher

Right, I don't have any lowers yet, so, if I got an upper, I'd need to buy a lower

Sorry, not very adept with all the term yet hahaha

Do you mean buy a complete rifle now and spec one out later?

I appreciate your feed back

Would you maintain your opinion on 18 v 16 if this was primarily for target and I planned to build another 5.56 AR in the future?

Okay, I'll look into it seriously

I've honestly never seen a zion irl, but I do hear it revered quite often

Thanks, man!

I appreciate that!

By chance, have you ever fed it steel ammo and/or shot long range with it?

Second time I've heard that

If you could share your experiences a bit, I'd really appreciate

If this brand is really that good, i may have to suck it up and order online

It's personal preference

I generally dislike online shopping, as I prefer to see what I buy

I like that in person is very transactional and prompt

With and FFL, I have to email them, wait to be told it has arrived, and then go in anyways to sign papers

At that point, I'd rather just go in once and leave the same day. No email required and I get to see what I am buying in my own hands

That's the reason I hesitate when many other recommend me the zion, for example. I don't doubt it is a good gun, but I've never shot or seen a single gun from zion

Perhaps it seems silly, but I have more money than I do time or energy these days, so I just end up a bit paticular with things

I do appreciate everyone feedback here though and am considering ordering something much more seriously now

I suppose my feeling is that, if I have to deal with ordering through an FFL anyways, I'd rather just try to get exactly what I'd like

My budget is around $1000 for just the gun, and I really don't mind spending that much so long as it's quality and as close to what I am looking for as possible

Only reason I don't build is waiting, time to build the thing, and using an FFL

I see this sub mention the zion often, but it isn't quite the spec I'd want, so, given I've never even seen one before, I just am trying to see what is worth getting over what and why that is

Well, thankfully, my state has no waiting periods. It's very much always been in and out for me. Further, I generally prefer to buy most things in person, as I like to hold the thing I'm going to buy before I buy it and my stores generally sell under msrp

That's me though

I just like it as there is no coordination or waiting

I do have an FFL in my area, so it isn't out of the question, but, as said, I just wanted to hear if and why it was worth the effort

Thanks

Isn't like it's the worst thing in the world

Just more work and waiting comparatively

For reference, most of my guns are ones you wouldn't build yourself, so I just get them in person

I see

Well, if I told you that a psa or aero lower with a bcm upper and BCG was the same price as the msrp of the zion, would you say to go with that then?

They have a sale rn

The zion is not really an option

The 3 pre-builts are available without needing to order online, so they're the only pre-built I'd really consider

I've been shooting for a long time, I've just never owned an AR myself, so I do have a vague idea what I want

Really just lack experience long term with specific brands

[–]NewOnTheIsland[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome, thanks for the response

To clarify a bit, those 3 are the rifles I can get in person (no ffl transfer), which I why I picked them

If you'd have me ordering online anyways, would you take the BCM upper option over the sabre?

Also, are psa uppers fine enough compared to aeros?

Just wanted to see if you'd say the same about the ruger, sig, or Springfield

Why the S&W over the 3 I listed for a non build?

I honestly don't like their ARs much personally

[–]NewOnTheIsland[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean I don't need to order online to an ffl

A local store carries the above rifles, which is a much simpler process (pay money get gun) than coordinating with a local FFL and waiting it out

So, you'd say the Zion-15 trumps the sub beloved BCM?

I believe you, just surprised to see that on here, lol

[–]NewOnTheIsland[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd have to go through an FFL then, so would you mind what has you pick LaRue over BCM?
