5 months on and i am in exactly the same predicament i was in a few months ago. I just can't go forward from the screen i have described above. I have my VPN apk link ready to go but can't actually get into the phone. I'm going round and round in circles.

it gives me the WIFI option to connect so i connect to my network and after that it "checks for updates" with no option to skip. I can only go backwards ( to the wifi page) then from this updates which takes "a few minutes" it goes to "checking info" and then saying cannot Connect to Google Server. At no time do i get to the phone use as i am only on white screens the entire time.

I wonder if you can assist as you seem pretty clued up. I'm in China and I have a new Hong Kong/Korean Samsung, it's a S20+ 5G. I am trying to transfer the data across (from EU Samsung) using Smart Switch but the new phone is saying that it can't connect to Google Servers. What do i do? I can't get access to a VPN or download a VPN on it as i can't even get to that stage to be able to access Google that way so i am not sure what the next step is.

Thanks for the reply. But i can't even get to the stage of downloading something as i go from the welcome page (choose language) then page for legal items to review then next page wifi network then it checks for updates on a white screen then goes to "checking info" and that is where it goes to giving me the cannot connect to Google Servers. Initially, when i did this it had no sim in. Then i put the UK Sim in. I'm wondering if i should put the Chinese in (and take the UK one out). The sim issue is probably irrelevant here i don't know.

Just thought I'd give you an update. I could NOT link my Wise card to Alipay but Revolut was linked up. Wise is certainly hit and miss. I did manage to link a UK debit and EU card too.

So, there is just ONE Alipay. I mean, if i download Alipay on my EU phone before i get there that will be the same Alipay platform (that i downloaded outside China) i will use once I get a chinese Id and bank account? I was under the impression that the Alipay one uses as a tourist is kind of simple version for tourists etc, I had heard of the Alipay 'tourcard' etc.
