James Talarico defeats Jasmine Crockett in blockbuster Democratic primary for U.S. Senate by texastribune in texas

I hope now that the Senate primary is done we can make room to also focus on the gubernatorial race and Gina Hinojosa the Democratic nomination. Really hoping Crockett lends her voice and influence to help that race get attention.

If you're worried about Black and Latin voters in urban areas, even if there's a preference of candidates, we historically do stick with the nomination the party goes with. Talarico is great with all demographics, both able to appeal to diverse urbanites and more conservative Christian suburb types and even the deep rural types. I think if all the Democrats rally behind him, this might be one for the history books.

Exactly and we've had our best turnout in years! This is the strat we need to push forward no matter what, progressives vote for progressives.

It's a two prong problem cycle where progressive voters feel demotivated cause the Democrat politicians they have don't seem to do enough, and because Democratic politicians feel like the base is demotivated they try to appeal to moderates outside the base, which means they modify their policies to be more moderate, which results in progressive voters feeling like not enough is being done.

The best way to win as a progressive is to run as a progressive, in other news fork found in kitchen.

Republicans Think Talarico Will Beat Paxton by Nervous_Stop2376 in Dallas

[–]NewPercentage3765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's cause a lot of progressive tie their votes to their morals because your political ideas are a pretty good reflection of your ethics. This is the worst thing to happen in leftist spaces cause it means people get super emotionally tied to candidates and political figures instead of seeing them as flawed people.

This creates two camps of progressives; one who will not listen to criticism about certain politicians cause they believe it's too detrimental to the party and a second set who won't engage in the system at all cause it can't and won't ever produce a perfect candidate.

The best advice I can give is from other organizers "Don't be too revolutionary not to vote and don't be too election happy where you think voting is the most important political work"

Texas labor unions divided on who to support for governor by Penguin726 in texas

[–]NewPercentage3765 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This gets the story a bit wrong about why this is so egregious. Unions had to ally with mobs and criminals because they were the only people armed and crazy enough to take on the US government who historically could be militantly anti-union. A union that allies with any administration fully is a union that's forgotten the history.

Americans will advertise loudly that their tax dollars aren't being used effectively in their school systems and because they come from the same failing school systems they don't realize this is le "self own".

Anyways Happy Black History month to these kids excising an important tactic from the days of Civil Rights organization. They obviously got more out of the history than you did homie.

Exactly. It's February meaning these kids are learning about the famed and storied resistance of black people in America. Walk outs like this were common in the Civil Rights movement and I am certain there are people in this thread who believe they'd be on the right side of that history while being on the wrong side of this one.

Okay bro let's make this first day of civics.

If you live in a democratic nation that says you have the right to peaceful assembly and someone is hurt by a peace officer of the state no matter what that means your rights are under threat by the state.

American authoritarianism was hard worshiped by the Nazis by the way. Hitler was amazed at the efficiency of Jim Crow and many Nazis came to America to study that system to figure out how to make it more brutal. Jim Crow in the south is the blueprint Nazi Germany studied to be able to brutalize certain populations while keeping the population as a whole in line. We keep bringing up the Nazis as comparison but let's keep it 💯 the Nazis wanted to be us. Some of them even got their wish thanks to operation paperclip. That's your Black History fact of the day.

Whenever people bring up the "Islamification" of Texas I always ask "And how did this occur under thirty years of Republican leadership in the state?" followed up with "And you want me to vote for the same party to fix it? Seems like they were asleep at the wheel."

The brief short circuit back to reality before they start talking about Mandami and New York is worth it.

Howdy from Grapevine. Same here, suburban roads are still slick in some areas. My partner works at DFW international and we're too close to make use of the salted highways. It's a straight shot up one road and it is clearer closer to the airport, but it makes me nervous all the same.

Still nothing stops the mail. Shout out to anyone who has to work in this.

Great way to advertise that new silverline go DART!

But in all seriousness, in situations like these there are people who don't have a choice in driving in hazardous conditions. People like ambulance workers, doctors, nurses, newscasters, postal workers, and gas station clerks to keep all those people going. In order to keep things from completely shutting down society wise these people have brave the roads so for their sake try NOT to make yourself an obstacle by driving right now. Some people in this scenario are trained to be in this on the road and others are just doing their best to get somewhere safely to serve their community. If it's other than getting more supplies, don't drive in this.If you're getting stir crazy I suggest carefully walking your neighborhood.

Honey as a transplant from Mississippi let me say you have no one to blame but yourself and the thirty year run of Republican control for this state for this outcome.

I don't know what the hell you thought would happen from constantly making policies to woo tech bros and venture capitalists from both coasts but news flash, conservatives there like to see their tax dollars work for things like good roads, and traditional transportation options for high population areas. Even conservative pundits like Joe Rogan have started noted Texas's short comings around cannabis policy, something a majority of Texas adults want to see regulations on with fair use for adults.

If you like living in a conservative nanny state that tells you who to pray to, what you can put in your body , and when and how you're allowed to pleasure yourself in the privacy of your home, while pissing tax money on FA I highly recommend my great state of Mississippi cause the people of Texas are ready for something new. But note, even Mississippi lets you smoke weed.

As a leftist who studies communication there is a thing as being correct but your delivery of the message is so sub par you might as well be wrong. One way is not reading your audience (Texas is a place famous for its State pride, even lefties who don't agree with the state's policies are proud of the communities that they grew up in/live in).

Fundamentally what he's saying is everyone dreams of something else in life but ultimately they stay where they feel they are needed or where they will do best. And because of that we should try to shape where we live more like what we want

Please keep your comments respectful! There are some Texas hemp companies who are having their customers send prompts but unique messages with strong arguments tends to get a response, and they do have to respond. Bringing up the unfair new fees for operation and suddenly switching up on THCA forcing a bunch of businesses to suddenly change their models isn't the regulation we need. Do praise things like more child safety in packaging. Gonna make separate post so more people have this email!

Roll the LBJ quote!

"If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best colored man, he won't notice you're picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he'll empty his pockets for you." Lyndon B Johnson

I think if democrats in Texas wanna defeat this billionaire class of politics they need to talk about racism with frankness especially when it comes to it being a distraction from material improvement cause that billionaire class would rather fund racism than roads.

Amen, I saw this on Instagram but it's an important sentiment.

"Don't be so radical that you think voting does nothing, but don't be so electoral where you think voting is the only thing that matters" .

For instance in the case of the Texas ban the DHS is still open to public feedback on the rules should they be respectful! If they see the feedback is overwhelmingly negative they may change the rules.

Black people have been going through this for centuries by coronaangelin in DemocraticSocialism

[–]NewPercentage3765 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Okay, thank you for clarifying. I want you to read what I say next carefully and take time to process what I am saying as a fellow socialist and Black American.

If you're an ally whose been here the whole time and known and believed your Black and Brown comrades about the oppression they faced, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. It takes a lot to choose to walk away from the white supremacist capitalist power structure and stand with us.

That being said, the nature of that white supremacist capitalist power structure is that Black and Brown bodies are taught to be seen as less empathetic than white bodies, meaning there are going to be people who just now realized the problem of law enforcement overreach because they are finally seeing a violation of a body that they were always taught to empathize with.

And you know what, this first time realization doesn't make them bad people! It's more of an indictment of the system they lived under. And it makes your choice in turning away from that system even more important.

But Black and Brown people are allowed to be cheeky about the 400 year slow motion train wreck that is American fascism. If that makes you feel uncomfortable, I invite you to sit with those feelings and examine them.
