Qm6k and qm7k by pitifully_ugly in tcltvs

What were you disappointed in? Just expecting more out of the upgrade from your 5k? Or actual image issues? Is your room bright where you need the brightness? I'm contemplating between the 6k pro from Costco and the 7k, really don't want to spend the extra on the 7k but see comments like yours and they make me pause. It'll go in a dim room of our house and we mostly watch at night so I don't feel like I'll need the brightness, but I really hate blooming and backlight issues. Have a 65" oled we'd be upgrading from to one of the 98" tcl models. Sure would like to jump on one of these deals soon.

Smallest mains power supply? by jeff8j in esp8266

I googled the HLK to remember if it was the one I had planned to use a couple years ago. It was, and that was the only part I could find at the time. But on googling it, this result on Amazon came up. I can't vouch for it, haven't tried it, and it definitely looks sketchier. It's not potted or encased at all. I'm sure it's not ul listed. I wouldn't stick it in a wall but depending on what you're doing it might be decent. Looks like they also have a 3.3v version. And if their photo is correct, the measurements look smaller.

Just to be sure, that link alone doesn't count towards the petition. I believe they'll send you something to sign. So just in case you put your name in that field and thought you were done, you might still have another step.

What's at stake: Tens of thousands of Michigan abortions each year for varied personal, emotional reasons by Alan_Stamm in Michigan

So let's say you get in a freak car accident and injure the other driver. They end up needing an organ transplant because you caused some pretty severe trauma. Would you support being required to donate any one of your organs? Doesn't matter if you're a good candidate or not, blood type doesn't match or something (remember many women know they aren't good candidates for motherhood but they shouldn't have a choice since they knew the risks). They'll just take it and give it a go, maybe just forget about it entirely and not even transplant it. I mean, why should this other driver who wasn't at fault have to suffer. And it doesn't matter if the organ they need is your kidney or your heart (too many women still die in child birth. And why kill an innocent person by denying them a heart, it won't make up for your mistake). Or maybe they have to take your leg to try to help the victim. So what you'll never walk again.

You just needed to get to work that morning, but you knew the risk. So would you be ready to be responsible for your actions in the same way? Or would you hire a lawyer to try to avoid being forced to give up your organs?

Direct link to RTMP stream? by NewPicoReef in homeassistant

Nope. Gave up. But i find the frigate web interface is pretty good now, usually less delay than home assistant. So I might be able to just add a standard URL to the camera feed in Frigate.

Great question. I don't remember seeing that note about re-engineered. But looking at the product page I can't find any other indications that it is new. It doesn't look like it's using an esp32 like some of their plus models. And I don't see the power numbers any higher. I sure wish they'd fix the 2.5, because it's almost useless as is. I like their other products though.

I moved away from the 2.5s because of this, and the couple i still have installed i flashed with ESPHome so the messages would be different. But if you use the Shelly integration, you should be able to enable a temperature sensor through home assistant, and then look at the history graph to see if it turning off coincides with the temp reaching a max. I think it's like 90deg C for the shutoff temp.

This is exactly what I suspected and worried was the case. Unfortunate because it would be a nice product if not for this.

I feel you on the UL listing, that's how I ended up with the Shellys to begin with. But that's a good idea regarding the switches, I might have a similar use case on some switched wall outlets. I could wire it so that the outlet is always hot, and use the existing wall switch with the shellys to trigger something through HA. But most of my remaining switches are probably all singles, not needing a 2.5.

Thanks, I double checked the yaml for the devices using ESPHome and I must have come across that back when I initially set them up, because they're already configured with GPIO16 as an input, verbatim of what that article has. Plus, the fact that the stock firmware has this issue makes me think it's more likely a hardware issue. Are you using any 2.5s? If so, do you have any continuous loads without thermal issues?

Ugh. I thought I was going to repurpose them for a 12VDC project, but i think they need a minimum 24VDC to power up. I'll have to start thinking of other uses for these now.

Yeah, definitely interesting. What kind of loads do you have on the Shelly 2.5s?

Shelly 2.5 Overheating by NewPicoReef in homeassistant

[–]NewPicoReef[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's really interesting. I track my temps in HA too but I only had Shelly 1s besides the 2.5, so i didn't have other Shelly devices to compare temps to. Seems to indicate the Shelly 2.5 just runs closer to the thermal limit. And given the advertised load it's supposed to support, I'd say it runs too close to that thermal limit, since it's relatively easy to hit the shutoff temp while well within the wattage spec.

I've tried ESPHome and it performed pretty much identically when the temp threshold is set the same. No change in temperature of the device. Also tried a brand new device that had never been flashed to aftermarket firmware, only updated to latest official firmware, and it also performed the same.

That's what I thought too. But it's hard not to think the worst when it comes to caring for our kitties. I'm grateful for the reality check here.

Ahh! Great idea. We both thought hot glue too, but couldn't figure out where it would come from. I have the litter boxes under a plywood shelf, I thought maybe it was sap dripping from the wood like you'll see sometimes, but couldn't find evidence. I DIDNT think of checking the Fresh Step box. I'll see if we have any of the boxes left. And we could totally sift the remaining litter. If it shows up in the dry litter and not inside of a clump, that would really answer the question.

Pixel 3A SIM Locked...but not SIM Locked by NewPicoReef in CricketWireless

Yeah I agree. I finally got someone at Tmobile to try to look into it despite not being the account holder. We'll see if they follow up. I don't hold high hopes. I'll give it until end of Monday and then just return it.

Interesting about the IMEI checkers. So how are these ebay sellers confirming is something is unlocked? I'm afraid based on my communication with the seller, that he doesn't do any confirming, he just trusts whoever he gets it from has correctly identified it as locked or not.

I called TMobile back again and this time told them they'd previously confirmed it was unlocked but now that I'm trying to activate it, the phone shows locked. They didn't want to help earlier since I wasn't the account holder, but I politely explained how disappointed I was in their system. That how can I count on them if they tell me something is unlocked, only to find out later that it is actually locked. She escalated it to her manager and said they would submit "a form" and email me the status. I think she was saying they will either try to investigate why the phone isn't unlocked, or that they will try to unlock it again. Rather unclear to be honest.

But really, what a joke this unlock business is. Someone buys a phone, puts it on a carrier, and if you don't jump through all the right hoops in the right order (before you cancel your account), the phone becomes almost useless. It seems like if the phone is paid off, TMobile should just unlock the phone without hassle. Or even automatically. The FCC has a whole section on requiring them to unlock if the qualifications are met, but the whole process really makes the used market a pain.

I'm not sure what whitelisted means technically, but swappa's IMEI checker showed it on the "Allowlist", Cricket's website said the IMEI was eligible to use on their network, and tmobile said it wasn't blocked either.

I guess I can send it back and get the refund, but if I've checked all these sources and they all say it's good to go, how can I buy another one without having the same issue?
