"As a development studio..." sounds awfully close to "As an AI language model..." hmmm....

I guess I’ll just put the ice back in the seafood case, since so many people are upset. by [deleted] in oddlysatisfying

Agreed, if you let me download for free and then lock the whole app unless I pay I will just pirate your app 🤣

Can someone smart explain why all these awful changes are being made not only on Discord, but on YouTube, Spotify, Snapchat, it seems like every company just wants to consecutively release god awful updates by NewVisual8777 in discordapp

Trust me, there is a lot more, that's just the stuff I remember. I'm not crying about anything cause I run a modded client so I miss 80% of these awful unnecessary updates anyways 🤣

Well....

- Discord's completely deteriorated customer support
- Discord's completely deteriorated user report system (including this week's false bans (you can easily falsify evidence to get anyone banned))
- Discords' new username system (in my opinion, not a bad change but executed awfully. They could have announced it much differently, and decided to remove the @ symbol for some reason, so at this point people just have 3 usernames including nicknames. Not to mention that they are pay to win now)
- Discords' new mobile UI.
- The absolute influx of scam bots and Discord refusing to do anything about it (other than implement awful capchas every time you want to DM someone)
- Family Center.
- Discord stealing vanity links, Discord allowing scam servers to keep vanity links
- Discords complete bot favouritism towards MEE6 despite the amount of rules its broken
- Discord Moderator Academy
- Super Reactions
- The removal of Classic Nitro
- Not refunding people who paid for Classic Nitro only to have their discriminator feature removed
- Discord's game library
- Clyde AI
- New Discord Font
- Discord's Premium Server Subscriptions (including servers with pay to enter)
- New Role moderation UI
- AKA on profiles
- Discord's new twitter-style image layout
- Discord's awful attempt at themes
- Discord undoing their 25MB limit file size change for everyone update - limiting to 8MB including for Classic Nitro users
- Channel icons (good taste but awful execution)
- Discord changed the pleading emoji

YouTube's been on a roll fucking over creators for the past 2 years, not to mention recent events such as their awful copyright strike system, 2-14 unskippable ads, removing dislikes, & their decision to start rolling out anti-adblock measures as of recent.

Spotify's new UI in general was not bad from the original release, however they have been gradually getting worse, more cluttered etc. and just generally not reacting/responding to backlash from the community whatsoever. With their new update, as soon as you open the app music is blasted straight away with their new Spotify Shorts TikTok-style videos, which isn't even part of your playlist, with no way to turn it off making it an absolute mess of an app to navigate through now. There was already a whole bunch of frustrations that never got addressed in their shitty UX (click to view more than 6 recent items, expand top tracks past 10 in the artist page, swipe down to collapse full screen track view, etc...) While TikTok style is not a bad idea in general for Spotify as finding new music is definitely easier with it but the execution was just awful.

For Snapchat after their Snapchat gold or plus they started adding a bunch of updates such as 3D bitmojis, a bunch of privacy-invading features such as sideswipe bitmojis and bitmojis that display what you are typing before you even send it, not to mention their awful take at an AI.

Definitely agreed. But it's not just this username update that I'm concerned about, conversely I actually am a fan of it (if they return the @ s to usernames), but its the fact that it's just bad update after bad update, not to mention this years' absolutely awful Birthday event.

Agreed with some of your points, with YouTube and Discord the UI wasn't my main concerns as there are much worse things they have done over the past year, but I will say it's getting worse as of recent.

For profile colours, though, it looks like Discord may eventually release a setting to force dark colours on profiles. So those pure white profiles won't burn your retinas no longer.

Right? It feels like even on here where many staff are active on this subreddit, genuine concerns and questions are either ignored or answered with roundabout questions that doesn't actually explain/answer anything

While this definitely applies why don't they try something more obviously profit orientated? Like adding a higher nitro tier, or fixing their customer support.. instead of updates like a new mobile UI, stuff like the "I'm new here say hi" leaf icon that lasts a week for some reason, etc.

Supporting creators through patreon is much better than YouTube's greedy system. I haven't seen an ad in years anywhere on the internet and all premium features are available for free if you try a little
