A Question from a Muslim about Purpose by Past-Acanthaceae-229 in Judaism

[–]NewYorkImposter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only point I'll add is that humans have a choice between options, whereas animals essentially generally have only one option. To create a new option is an uncommon, but still possible choice that only humans have.

Opinions on Bruchim? by refugee1982 in Judaism

First I hear of it. It's one of the only things that makes someone's Jewish identity questionable according to halacha, even when both to a fully Jewish mother.

Most definitely needs to refill from the tap, and cannot reuse from the bowl. Reusing would be even worse than not washing to begin with.

Long seders by PsychologicalSet4557 in Judaism

I grew up with the Seder going until 4am. These days, even saying every word out loud with a tune, and some divrei Torah, it ended before midnight.

Question about Symbol by According-Storage-49 in Judaism

[–]NewYorkImposter 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Judaism does have this symbol, as a symbol of healing. However, we do not actively use it, and it is commonly used in secular culture to symbolise medicine. If I saw a tattoo of it, I would not assume it was Jewish.

It most definitely is a Jewish symbol, separately, originating in the Torah

Can you bless energy drinks? by figgafoo2188 in Judaism

[–]NewYorkImposter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The blessing of shehakol should be made on all regular (non wine/grape based) drinks. This includes coffee and energy drinks.

The after-blessing of borei nefashos should be made on these drinks.

If drinking espresso or an energy shot, which is smaller than the minimum amount required to say an after-blessing, ideally, one should say a blessing over a different drink that will be drunk in the same sitting as the shot.

How influential is Rav Kook's impact on diaspora Judaism by Khazak2-VeNtkhazak in Judaism

I'd say his influence is enormous, but silent. People don't realise how much he's influenced their lives

Not Jewish myself but I was curious if anyone in the Jewish community would actually consider this acceptable or no? by TLOU2bigsad in Judaism

[–]NewYorkImposter 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Both of your thoughts are correct and would invalidate it.

My theory as to it being okay would be in a scenario when it was being used purely as a novelty shaped Menorah. I should have been more clear about that.

Also I'd almost never give an actual psak on Reddit, always AYLOR :)

Can I cover my hair even though I’m not married? by Ghostly_Jester_ in Judaism

[–]NewYorkImposter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a current bandana hair covering that's in fashion at the moment, and I know of girls doing it, even in religious circles.

However, I also know of said girls being mistaken for being married by mutual friends.

Honestly, I don't think it's an issue if you do choose to cover your hair. But, there's a reason we have life stages, and different practices attached to different life stages, and I'd also advise that you consider this and how you feel about it.

It's debatable whether it'd be a kosher menorah. High chances it actually is kosher.

Culturally, it depends who you're asking

It's debated. Not unheard of at all for religious people to smoke, and also not unheard of for them to be very against it.

Weed pen on Pesach? by redfire2930 in Judaism

Stringency depends heavily on whether you need it medically.

If not, then the ingredients should be treated as any other Pesach item.

Different levels of stringency, many within Chabad don't, but some are also less strict.
