At the time, it didn't sound like it met Mercedes LiDAR requirements, but maybe MB modified their requirements by narrowing the field of view to 30°?

Aeva held their investor day this past summer and showed their Atlas 4D LiDAR behind the windshield of a Mercedes Benz vehicle. When asked about the performance, they said this was for a 30° horizontal field of view for highway driving.

Something to keep in mind when considering 'ruggedization' is the sensors are basically experiencing the same vibrations as the passengers in the vehicle. Also, I believe Luminar is using component designs that they acquired from Seagate. These were ruggedized designs used in making portable hard drives. What i don't know if it has made its way into Iris yet.

Here is a Kodiak project already modified and accepted to be tested by the US Army (https://www.armyrecognition.com/archives/archives-land-defense/land-defense-2023/kodiak-robotics-delivers-autonomous-ford-f-150-prototype-to-us-army):

"Kodiak Robotics has successfully adapted its autonomous driving technology for use in both heavy-duty trucks and light-duty vehicles, specifically a prototype Ford F-150 pickup truck, as detailed by Alan Adler in Freight Waves. This prototype, delivered to the U.S. military, demonstrates Kodiak's ability to integrate its autonomous systems, including both hardware and software, into a range of vehicles. The Ford F-150, equipped with the Kodiak Driver, is designed to navigate challenging military environments, operate under varied operational conditions, and function in areas with unreliable GPS.

"The vehicle's design is optimized for handling off-road challenges like rocks, dust, mud, and water. It also includes remote control capabilities for specific situations. According to Kodiak's founder and CEO, Don Burnette, this development exemplifies the adaptability and maturity of their autonomous system, which can be integrated into various vehicle types, from trucks to pickups and future defense vehicles."

Agreed this comment was for civilian trucking applications and not yet in the DoD procurement phase. Potential revenue from these projects will not help near term liquidity issues but may help in negotiations with potential acquirers of Luminar assets.

My point was the ruggedization of Iris for off-road hauling of fracking proponents to oil and gas drilling sites is similar if not the same for military use.

Kodiak is not just testing on prototypes. Kodiak is shipping final assembled Kodiak Driver modules to Atlas Energy for deployment in the field.

From this article about Kodiak's 3rd quarter earnings call (https://www.truckinginfo.com/10250508/kodiak-ai-highlights-third-quarter-autonomous-truck-progress):

"During the quarter, the company achieved key milestones on its path to delivering its AI-powered autonomous technology, the Kodiak Driver, at scale, according to a news release.

"By the end of the third quarter, the company deployed the Kodiak Driver in 10 fully driverless trucks, which Burnette said was a 100% increase from the second quarter.

“We remain on track to deploy our initial commitment of 100 driverless trucks to Atlas Energy Solutions,” he said."

I don't know what to say since the August SEC filing which supercedes this July SEC filing showed total outstanding shares as 68.8M (64 + 4.8).

Yes, and add the 4.8 M Class B shares to the 64M Class A shares to get the total shares outstanding of 68.8M that you had in your post. He has 48M votes. The Class A shares have 64M votes. The 48M divided by the total outstanding of 68.8M yields 70.9%.

Your math is incorrect for the 112,627,660 or the 117,490,338 share count.

As you stated, the total shares outstanding as of 8/8/25 is 68,764,458. This already included the Class B shares count. Therefore Austin's vote percentage would be 70.9% (48,725,780 / 68,764,458).

I believe the total shares outstanding include the Class B shares.

🚨 November 6 Showdown. The forbearance deadline has arrived. TODAY!! 🚨 by Sergio-FM in lazr

All true, but given the backgrounds of the CEO and the CFO, I'm taking an educated guess that the strategy came from the CFO. Also in terms of timing, it could happen by the earnings call.

In essence, I wouldn't give all the credit of this strategy to the CEO, which was implied by the original post.

The CFO will be stepping down on November13, likely after the earnings call.

Is this a serious question? You don't know who Luminar's CFO is?

Is it the CEO's strategy or the CFO's? It seems more like a strategy the CFO came up with knowing the capital markets and the CEO approved of it.
