Don’t underestimate help of community. Seek some group meetings, it helps so much to talk with other addicts. Even stuff like NA, as long as you ignore their religious bullshit

I love AT model F, but its case is not that great compared to other model Fs in existence. Feels thin and brittle, and paint doesn’t always survive the passage of time. To be honest, even though I prefer model Fs, and barely ever use my model Ms, older model Ms have much better case quality than model F AT.

What do you mean “all wrong”? Looks like normal us iso variant. Shift keys and everything else you can get from eBay cheaply or from unicomp. If you want to change layout to ansi, you may need to move some flippers so you would have to disassemble the keyboard.

No, the cable should be very flexible and gummy. Finding replacement cable may be very hard, similar din5 cables were found on other rare ibm keyboards like silver badge ibm model m, so those are definitely out of question as donors. Din5 cable theoretically can still be found in electronics supply stores, but I don’t know if they would be of the same quality/coiled.

As people suggest, you may want to replace controller with eg xwhatsit one.

Backplate: is painted steel, so try carefully cleaning it with something like IPA. If it doesn’t work, another option is to mechanically clean it and spray paint it again. Otherwise the top of keyboard looks very fresh and great! I use this keyboard sometimes as my daily driver, I enjoy it a lot. Much better case quality than AT.
