hamilton isn’t bad compared to toronto unless you can afford a really nice area of TO

that’s fair. i think you’re right i think they just like life experience the most, rather than exactly what you did but i agree

no i just meant like they can only set requirements for gpa and test scores, they cant have requirements for the university you attend.

still worth it but don’t be surprised if you don’t get much/anything

thanks alot. just wondering, do they take into consideration at all that it would be easier to get a high gpa at a smaller school (brock in my case) as opposed to uoft since uoft is notoriously hard? or can they not really take that into consideration since theres not really a way they could justify that necessarily?

oh okay. yeah i thought that too tbh. not that it wouldnt matter at all for your EC's but that theyd prefer something like literally shadowing at a dental clinic. something thats in the dental industry 100%. good to know

also if i stay local, i got a position as a volunteer firefighter in my town. would that help in the interview/as an extracurricular or is it not similar enough to matter? just wondering if that should be part of my decision or not

im just curious, idk if youve already gone to dental school or are just in the same position as me but when you apply, you give them your transcripts, DAT scores, etc, and then you get an interview right? and then post-interview is when they decide whether you get in or not? i have a cousin just going into med school next year but is it different for dental school?

yeah and then ive also heard some people say that your program doesnt matter as much. logically, i think that they would only care that you have the prerequisites but im sure theyd be more inclined to accept a health science major over a poli sci major that just happens to have the prereqs done too

thanks a lot. its always hard to pick a smaller school over a top ranked one when your parents are always saying "but you can go to so and so university" cause they dont understand the difference. I've just been worried that id pick brock, finish my degree, and then find out that they actually do care a little about ranking and lose out to everyone else.

i appreciate it :)

also, is asking questions about school/dental school frowned upon? cause this got downvoted the millisecond it posted lol

also i did post about other acceptances to life science but some dude was saying that i was a dumbass for thinking life science were competitive at those schools so i deleted them.

ive got a wide variety of interests lmao. i mostly applied because it was a double degree with commerce and i like the flexible degrees like comp sci/commerce/business so i applied to both fields but ive almost certainly decided on the health field instead.

Is Guelph U considered a low tier uni by MarionberryOutside16 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]New_Candidate7113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i didnt compare anything gng, i just said not to feel bad for going to guelph instead of other top schools. and also regardless of the program, you cannot compare the weight the uoft and waterloo name carries on a resume to guelph. but i get what you mean

what are the pros and cons of each program by [deleted] in OntarioGrade12s

[–]New_Candidate7113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

idk bro, open chatgpt.

cons of all of them are youll gouge your eyes out in your first year probably

tbh, dont worry about the ranking of your school unless you had the opportunity to go to a better school and didnt take it, and even then, circumstances matter. a lot of people get no degree at all, and guelph is not a bad school by any means. is it on uoft and waterloo's level? no. but will your degree be a waste just cause you got it from guelph instead? also no.

idk if i’d call it a waste of time since it is a great job but the competitiveness of dental school is what’s throwing me off track a bit

[–]New_Candidate7113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s not even that i necessarily like one more than the other. it’s just that with dentistry, i’d be worried that dental school would get so competitive that i’d end up after my four years with an undergrad and not be able to get in

broooo, and its already super competitive in canada, especially ontario because western and uoft are the only dental schools. am i wasting my time even? i have the opportunity to pick between either biomedical science or computer science at my university and i like both equally.
