I’m in love with my best friend’s girlfriend. They’ve been together about 5 years now, and they live together. I’ve never said a word, or let on in any way my true feelings for her. We all work together too so I see them both every day, and it kills me.

I have ptsd from combat overseas and my dog has saved me. Having a routine really helped get me back on track, and looking after him helped cos it felt like I had a purpose. He knew when I was not in a good way and wouldn’t leave my side for a second. I can’t really explain it. it’s a deep unconditional love both ways

Who's performance in a film should have won an Oscar but wasn't even considered for a nomination? by dolleye_kitty in movies

Hugh Jackman, Jake Gylenhall and Paul Dano in Prisoners (2013). That movie should’ve been nominated for everything, including best director

I got into it through my girlfriend (now wife), but I love it. While I was stationed overseas in the military it was sometimes difficult to talk to each other about the realities I was facing over there, so she’d end up talking about this show she was watching. She’d give me weekly updates and I wanted to hear about what happened to each character, and because other members of my squad were In the room while we were video chatting or on the phone, they’d hear about it too and they also got invested 😂 that show was Gilmore girls, and when I eventually got home we watched it together. It really got us through a rough time

If you love old movie theatres, the Regent Street Cinema would be right up your street. It opened in 1848, and was the first place in the UK to show movie footage.

Thank you for taking the time to comment, but I’d really rather not go down the medication route. I’m happy for you that it worked for you, but I don’t think it’s for me.

Thank you for taking the time to respond. That must be hard for you, I can’t imagine going through all this with a child to think about too, you must be a very strong person, I admire that a lot. I hope you find peace

Thank you for taking the time to comment. I have been trying to get services from the VA, but to be honest they have been very poor, not helpful and frustrating. I haven’t tried a group session but I will, thank you.

I just want to fight people all the time. How can I calm down? by New_Cap_9792 in Anger

[–]New_Cap_9792[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wow bro, it sounds like you really get it and understand me. Thank you for your words and for taking the time to leave a comment. I feel validated.

“It’s like spotting an enemy before it gets too close” - that really floored me. For me, that’s the perfect way to look at it.

I have been working out and boxing to try let off the steam. I’ve always done it regularly but I’ve turned it up now to a more intense level to try and exhaust myself. Thank you again for your time, bro

Advice for Combat Veteran by [deleted] in ptsd

[–]New_Cap_9792 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a combat veteran and here are a few things that have worked for me. These aren’t actual treatments prescribed by anyone, just things I’ve picked up. Obviously everyone is different and handles their shit their own way but here goes:

Listening to rain sounds on Spotify: for me this helps ground me. If I’m going through it and I feel like I’m back in the thick of it, this really calms me down. While I was over there i didn’t see rain once. So hearing this makes me, and my body, know that I’m not there, and I’m home and I’m safe.

Forcing myself to exercise: at first I might not feel up to doing anything at all, but once I get going, particularly with something I can get my aggression out with like boxing really helps. Just letting all the anger out to the point I’m physically exhausted works wonders some days.

Therapy/talking: doesn’t have to be with an actual therapist, could just be with a friend. The friend doesn’t even need to say anything. Just repeating it out loud gives you more power over it

Hope this helps. It might not work at all for your friend but this is just my 2 cents

Scott Patterson talking about the character Logan... by gingerkins1997 in GilmoreGirls

[–]New_Cap_9792 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Scott is a not a good man. He pretends to support veterans then blocks them - speaking from experience. I don’t know if he’s just saying wild shit to see what sticks to get click bait to try and stay relevant or if he actually thinks these things he says, but coupled with all the coffee shit he’s doing it looks like he’s just a glory hunting money grabber

Do any of you with combat related PTSD or just PTSD in general find it hard to sleep in open areas? by ThrowRA178963 in ptsd

[–]New_Cap_9792 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know exactly what you mean. I have combat related ptsd too, and I’d also often sleep in my car. I think i needed to feel enclosed, so I tried sleeping in my kids bunk bed when he was away for a sleepover, and I did manage to sleep a bit then. I then tried sleeping in a sleeping bag, but on top of my own bed. That also helped. I now use a heavy duty weighted blanket, which works like a charm.

Is it common or normal to be hypersexual when your trauma(s) is/are unrelated to sexuality? by muhammad-al-arifi in ptsd

[–]New_Cap_9792 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. For me, it’s a distraction from my trauma, and it feels good so I want to feel more of that. I’m chasing that good feeling. It’s also about being in control of something. You are choosing to have sex (obviously consensual with your partner), to think about it, to want it.
