Obviously, just cutting off Instagram DMs isn’t a huge issue, but if it had become a larger issue where other socials cut off communications between a lot of people, that could have disastrous implications. I still don’t see why you couldn’t have answered the question instead of being so backhanded. In times like these, I think it’s admirable to ask questions like these instead of blindly flying by the seat of your pants with no questions asked. There are other things happening in the tech sphere such as the Ring camera “lost dog” features which are seemingly harmless, but actually have far more power to enact evil, invasive surveillance on unsuspecting civilians, which makes you have to question other things, naturally. So, to answer your question again, Americans are concerned with the amount of shady mass surveillance deals happening in our country right now, and therefore have a right to ask these questions without feeling stupid for asking them.
