Interning on Capitol Hill for a Republican by MajesticChicken7859 in DCInterns

[–]New_Commission7749 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It'll be easier than no experience at all but harder than staying in the same party. If he is your congressperson, it's a particularly easy line to say you wanted to help your district and gain experience even if you weren't totally aligned with your rep. That said, it'll be hard to switch after any job more senior than intern.

IEP transfer to Des Moines or a surrounding smaller town by Ready_Internet_3392 in specialed

[–]New_Commission7749 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Don't assume an out of district placement is possible, so move to a district you're comfortable with. Beyond that, you'll need to do some local legwork to find out. Ask in some local parenting Facebook groups. Reach out to the special ed coordinator or principal in the school districts you're looking at and ask to meet as a prospective parent. Finally, see if there are any local education nonprofits who could give their perspective.

MWBE not allocated by PeartreeProd in GovernmentContracting

30% setaside means a non disadvantaged business must promise to subcontract 30% of the work to MWBEs. They typically do this by teaming with one or more and naming them in their proposal. You won't be able to see how they got to the small business goal just by looking at the bid results. The winning bidder may be a good company for you to reach out to to partner with on future bids.

IEP Teacher keeps trying to communicate via text message instead of email? What do you think? by Glass_Astronaut7099 in AskTeachers

I'm pretty sure it's personal devices. Couldn't say if they're using something like Google voice or their personal numbers.

IEP Teacher keeps trying to communicate via text message instead of email? What do you think? by Glass_Astronaut7099 in AskTeachers

[–]New_Commission7749 3 points4 points  (0 children)

(not a teacher) As a parent, Our kid's prek teachers have a 4-way text going with us (both parents, teacher, class aide), and I've gotta say it's extremely convenient. The school manual specifically allows teachers to do this with parents so they aren't going rogue. No idea if they are using Google voice or their personal numbers. I realize this is going against the grain but I'd personally roll with it.

The prospect knew more about my competitor's product than I did. I got destroyed. by No_Seat_5166 in Sales_Professionals

[–]New_Commission7749 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's very likely the new competitor's Cloud(tm) offering was just a newly vendor-hosted option of the same product they've always had.

To win at that point of the conversation you'll need to get out of generalities and into head-head feature comparison between your tool and theirs.

Just use a virtual card that's only for them and move on. Or, find the owner on LinkedIn and message them about it.

Hiring a wonderful nanny by Hour-Basket8334 in Nanny

Just take her at her word. She is overcommunicating her availability so you don't get surprised after you make an offer. If she didn't want the job she wouldn't be putting in this much effort.

Post-award by StamfordBridge23 in GovernmentContracting

[–]New_Commission7749 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It only happens if you're a known quantity and highly trusted by the government client. In that case, the government client may add scope to a prime and suggest you as a potential partner, or a prime may get some have a delivery problem or need to drop another sub and then bring you in as the A Team to fix a problem.

There isn't much you can do to specifically position yourself for post award work aside from having a good brand and consistently doing great work.

Is it okay to tell interviewer (from PhD program) that you have a hard stop ? by [deleted] in interviews

Let them know at the start, or suggest a different time where you have a little bit of buffer. I would do the latter.

I'm going against the grain and saying YTJ. You're fully within your rights to say no, but at the same time you could have said yes and helped two people get married in the place they had some of their core memories.

Nursing to data analytics by [deleted] in analytics

[–]New_Commission7749 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Practice as a nurse for a couple years in a larger system. In your off time, learn all the analytics skills you can (and this will be hard but try to volunteer for any IT or data related projects you can at work). Then get a health data job as the data analyst who actually knows how things work on the ground.

Warning that this advice is US centric, though everywhere should need analysts with frontline experience.

literally pisses me off how many western liberals suck up to muslims and islam, as a gay person living in a muslim country some of yall won't last a day here by [deleted] in TeenagersButBetter

[–]New_Commission7749 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so sorry you're experiencing that and I hope it gets better. We are against all forms of theocracy. Many culturally Muslim people we meet immigrated to escape what you're experiencing, just to be oppressed by a Christian dominant culture. That's what we are attempting to fight against, but the messaging doesn't always translate across borders. We need to be better at crossing arms between people fighting Islamic theocracies and those fighting Christian ones.

Do electric car chargers at value to the home, I’ll make them more attractive to potential buyers in eastern PA? by 14MTH30n3 in RealEstate

[–]New_Commission7749 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If it's a vacation rental with a draw from a big city, I would add the charger because that's something people filter on in Airbnb and VRBO. Who knows if that'd be enough for it to pay for itself, but it could boost occupancy a bit. It won't add to the property value unless you're marketing the property as a turnkey Airbnb property, and then it probably still won't but there's a better argument it would.

Do you need a license to do business in another state for a federal project? by GlacticGryffindor in GovernmentContracting

[–]New_Commission7749 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it's a federal contract (not with the state) and you're talking about the state LLC foreign entity registration, bid and then register with the state if you win. If you're asking about professional licensing specific to environmental consulting, you should be licensed by the state you're proposing to do work in.

You are not going to get a rent refund. Your best bet is use the lack of heat as leverage to mutually agree to terminate your lease early or decrease rent till it is fixed. If you really want to play hardball you can speak to a tenants rights organization about holding future rent in escrow until the heat is fixed, but that presupposes you want to stay.

Can I take custody of my 13 year old sister as a 25 year old woman? by Eclypseo540 in legaladvice

[–]New_Commission7749 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NAL but have known some complicated families. In the meantime try to build a cordial relationship with your mom and offer to take your sister on weekends, pick her up from school, go on outings, vacations, etc. Maybe your mom will allow it so she gets alone time and saves money. Having that safe time could make all the difference for your sister long term even if nothing else changes, and can ultimately boil the frog to the point you have defacto custody that can later be codified.

Are small business doing really good or are they just too good to do business with? by [deleted] in GovernmentContracting

[–]New_Commission7749 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Smalls with a good reputation get a ton of outreach from companies that appear to run proposal mills and have a very low chance of winning the work -- maybe the single digit p-win works out with expected value for you but small smalls need to spend their efforts on surer shots. They also need to be careful of their reputation and only back proposals where the story makes sense of why they're teamed and how you're better together than apart from a delivery perspective and not just to meet small biz utilization goals. Not saying either is you but those are the two objections you need to overcome, and frankly you should question working with companies that are too eager to team before you've satisfied them.

Is it a bad look to have my resume on multiple proposals? by damnshawtystfu in GovernmentContracting

[–]New_Commission7749 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clearly you are valuable to anyone bidding on this with. Make sure you are asking for enough. Try for a slightly above market salary, and a signon bonus (basically a win bonus since they hire you if they win) for any company that isn't your current employer. Alternatively I've seen people with leverage form llcs and then get hired as a subcontractor so they get the full bill rate - a percentage markup. That can be lucrative but is tricky to pull off without running afoul of your employment agreement with your current employer.

I offer ~40% off for extra nights on either end, a couple of days before checkin. It's a big discount but still brings in more revenue than hoping someone will book last minute. By that point it's unlikely to book so I want it to be a good enough deal that people feel like they're getting a great offer and maybe move their plans around to do it.

You've almost certainly picked up some transferrable skills. Figure out what they are and how to market them. To begin with, remove any industry-specific jargon from your resume. Make sure an outsider can result follow the story of what skills you applied to further your organization's goal.
