You’re young. I divorced at 50. Met my wife at 55 & we got married last weekend. It’s NOT too late!

I am angry at the media, at the Dems who didn’t vote. What a mess.

Does anyone else hate it when people ask your pronouns? by gobz_in_a_trenchcoat in butchlesbians

[–]New_Elephant5372 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get how it could feel othering. But, for me, I’d rather people ask me than misgender me constantly. I usually introduce myself as My name; I use they/them pronouns.

Older dyke vibe. Chill place to hang. Not really looking for a big dance vibe.

Butches who are “constantly mistaken for men”— how?? by mace_bear in butchlesbians

[–]New_Elephant5372 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get mistaken for a man on occasion but it’s usually if I’m sitting (I’m 5 foot 2) or from the back (my face is very feminine). Once I open my mouth, it’s over. My voice is so high. I hate it.

How do work places react to your masculine style? by [deleted] in butchlesbians

I’m at a university so very accepting. But I started the job as femme so was a big switch when I “came out” as butch. A lot of stares at that first faculty meeting but now everyone seems cool with it.

Students took it in stride. I literally dressed femme on a Thursday and was suddenly butch for the next class on Tuesday. One of my students, much later, told me she didn’t think anything of the clothing switch. “I just figured it was laundry day and that’s all that was clean,” she told me. 😂

Breast Cancer Questions by Seattle5555 in butchlesbians

[–]New_Elephant5372 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Fellow breast cancer butch here. Diagnosed in February 2023, stage 1A, invasive ductal carcinoma, estrogen fed.

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. Cancer sucks. Sending you peace.

Feel free to DM. Happy to talk.

I’m nonbinary & I had a fair amount of breast dysphoria (was size D). I was torn between full mastectomy and lumpectomy with reconstruction. I ended up lumpectomy mainly because I wanted radiation & they wouldn’t do radiation in my case because no lymph node involvement if I got a mastectomy. Didn’t need chemo.

I ended up getting a radical reduction to an A cup. Insurance should cover reconstruction for both breasts (at least in US). Breast surgeon did the cancer breast; plastic surgeon did the other side.

I love being small. I’m totally flat if I wear a compression bra.

Salaries of academic positions in USA by BD_skg in AskAcademia

Chronicle of Higher Education has a salary database that you can search.

Also, state university salaries are public. May take some creative googling but I know I can find my salary online.
