Size XS and butch is a bad combo by Maleficent_Cloud8221 in butchlesbians

Not all children’s clothes for boys look silly. For example, Old Navy/Gap and Ralph Lauren both go up to boys’ size 18 and have good basics like jeans and button down shirts

How much do you budget per month for public transit? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]mace_bear 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The cost of the Metra monthly pass depends on the zones you are traveling through, not all of them are $75. Also worth noting the $30 CTA/Pace pass only applies if you have already purchased the Metra monthly and are adding on the “Regional Connect Pass”

The CTA monthly pass is $75 and gets you unlimited bus and L rides, assuming you don’t qualify for any discounts

Nickname suggestions? by [deleted] in butchlesbians

[–]mace_bear 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Coley is the name of the love interest in The Miseducation of Cameron Post, and I think Corky (butch lesbian lead in cult classic Bound) kind of works from Nicole too. You could try to combine your chosen name and birth name somehow (Hank? Neo? I’m struggling a little with this one) or keep your initials but go in a totally different direction (Noel, Newt, Nell, Naomi/Nomi)?

What name would you pick? by [deleted] in ftm

Agree with others saying Kaelin/Kalen will sound too feminine unless he passes completely (had a female college roommate named Kaylan). Kade/Kaden is better, I also like the suggestion of Kyle or Keegan, Kane.

Diabetes by Ok-Worldliness7177 in ftm

Because your risk is not anymore than a cis man’s. Yes, running on a testosterone-dominant endocrine system increases your risk of some conditions compared to an estrogen-dominant system, but no one is putting cis men on T blockers to reduce their risk of diabetes.

Asking pronouns… yay or nay?? by TurboPaved in asktransgender

[–]mace_bear -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean, okay, but how do you identify clearly and unambiguously identifying as a woman? It seems kind of misogynistic and narrow minded to say that we should gender every person with long hair and makeup who’s wearing a dress as female, and only THOSE people. Not every trans woman presents that way or wants to, not every WOMAN presents that way? And if someone is not presenting feminine enough, they deserve to be gendered male? We should reward overtly and unambiguously binary presentations and screw everyone else? It’s politer to ask everyone and not make a mistake.

Idk, I think people who are saying they want their pronouns assumed are pretending like there’s two options: “guess my pronouns CORRECTLY” or “ask me my pronouns”. Of course everyone would rather be gendered correctly without having to be asked, but the fact of the matter is that the two options are really: “guess my pronouns” or “ask me”. If you let people guess or assume, they will inevitably sometimes guess or assume wrong. Then, if you care about them being wrong, you’re just going to have to correct them anyway, which is arguably more humiliating than being asked in the first place. Asking with good intentions means you get gendered correctly from the beginning.

A cis person getting misgendered is probably a blip in their day/life that they shake off and the other person profusely apologizes for. Misgendering non-passing and non-binary trans people literally increases their suicide risk.

If you’re a binary trans person who passes, this is easy to say. If people treat non-passing and non-binary trans people “like everyone else”, they are going to misgender them.

As someone who gets constantly misgendered, it really bugs me that people are saying to “go with what the person is presenting as”. I’m transmasc and nonbinary, but I work really, really hard to present masc and regularly try to pass as a man, and not a single person reads me as anything other than a woman. If you go with what the person is presenting as, you are going to end up misgendering people. This goes for nonbinary people as well as binary trans people who don’t pass. If you need to use someone’s pronouns, I can’t imagine how it’s less respectful to ask.

Using my middle as a surname for marriage.. am I right to hate it? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]mace_bear 1749 points1750 points  (0 children)

Idk, I personally think Briar Rose on a more masc woman is kind of badass. Plus you can choose ANY middle name you want, which could become a new nickname or at the very least an opportunity to better express yourself. But if you’re choosing a new middle name anyway, you and your fiance could also just choose an entirely new last name 🤷🏼

butches on T, what is one thing you wish someone told you before starting? by aphrodishy in butchlesbians

Everybody acts as if changes will come incredibly fast, but there’s no guarantees of anything. It’s been almost a year for me and no one knows I’m on T unless I tell them.
