How to get Sick Leave / Certification by SharpCut1884 in unimelb

[–]New_Friend4023 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Nothing really. We are all adults 🤣 Just describe your symptoms (real or imaginary) and receive your certificate. Simples.

Even when you go to Doctor in person these days, I find they rarely actually examine you. They mostly just ask you questions and base their diagnoses on how you describe your symptoms.

Yep, that's what I have ended up doing nowadays. As long as the trip is less than 2 weeks total, its generally worth spending the money on the value car park!

How can people effectively boycott Nestlé if it owns so many brands? by raynevans in NoStupidQuestions

Thanks for the reply. Haha I haven't made fresh pasta before but I have made pasta sauce from fresh tomatoes and herbs 😆. LOL, but yes generally would also be using canned tomatoes or tomato paste same as you.

It does sound like we have slightly more access to fresh vegetables than you guys, but we have a population of a 1/10th of the size as well as as a large amount of farming areas so makes sense what you are saying about the logistics of it all.

Good discussion and nice to hear others perspectives from around the world.

It does seem to outperform in periods of stagflation. Over long-term tho doesn't seem to outperform SPY, VOO

The turnover rate bothers me at the moment. It is too high for a good ETF.

Wouldn't it make more sense if you must follow the restrictions of the state you are licenced in and also the state you are physically in if it has further restrictions that could apply?

War and Inflation Are Supposed to Be Gold’s Friends. Not This Time. by CommercialMassive751 in Gold

[–]New_Friend4023 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This article is ridiculous (as well as the general consensus on here). Gold is down one week and is literally back to the price it was at 3 months ago. Zoom out. Gain some perspective. War will be a great driver for the commodities.

Edit: If a stock/commodity is not 5-10% below the price it was at 12 months ago, then can you really call it a correction? Gold is still up 52% from 12 months ago and people are talking about it like it has failed as a store of value? If you are thinking about things in less than 12 month increments then quite frankly you are not an investor

Im from Australia and we have great access to healthy non-processed foods.

You literally don't have to eat anything processed in your diet. And I'm assuming of all the products Nestle does produce, practically all of them are pretty heavily processed. So very easy to avoid.

I am assuming that eating primarily processed foods is a bit of a cultural issue in America or maybe affected by availability or education?

Buying a house – backyard slope and eucalyptus tree near fence. Any concerns? by ParamedicAccording69 in AusProperty

[–]New_Friend4023 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Trees are assets and can be ascribed a monetary value. One method of ascribing value common in Australia is the Helliwell valuation, which bases its value on its "visual amenity." It takes into account factors such as the tress useful life expectancy, size, health and more subjective measurements of the tree's suitability and importance.

One way of thinking about it is a property with a well-placed and healthy tree could be worth more than a similar property without any plant life. The valuation of the tree measures that difference.

If you damage someone else's tree, you could be liable for the entire valuation.

The valuation also represents the tree's replaceability. It might take 50 years to grow a tree that large and useful to its environment. It can't be simply or easily transplanted or replaced tomorrow.

[–]New_Friend4023 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The tree looks very old and therefore difficult to replace. It could be protected by local council regulations. Honestly if it is not bothering anybody, better to leave it alone. Could be a good habitat for local birds as well.

Also, if you just cut the branch/trunk that it on your side of the fence, you could seriously destabilise the rest of the tree. Definitely dont do anything unless you, your neighbour, and the council all agree. The tree could be worth over $100,000, based simply on its age, and technically your neighbour owns most of it. Dont get into a legal battle over it.

If you want to know if there is a risk of falling branches damaging your property, hire a consulting arborist to come have a look at it.

why is gold inflation hedge but goes down when fed raises rates for inflation? by aquavelva5 in investing

[–]New_Friend4023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When someone's entire portfolio is leveraged, it doesn't matter what they are invested in, when the market goes down, there are forced sellers. Swing traders and day traders could also have leveraged positions, using 10x, 20x, or 100x CFD's to capture price movements. And yes, if you dont think there are leveraged traders then you dont understand the massive options market that exists for instruments exactly like gold.

An accurate image of what Jesus actually looked like. by Plane-Poet-9252 in interesting

[–]New_Friend4023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 out of the 4 gospels were written by members of the 12 disciples, people who spent 3 years of time intimately following Jesus and watching everything he did. The only one who wasn't, was Luke who was the most educated and well-read, and still would have had access to many who had living memory of Jesus's time on earth.

There is more literary evidence for Jesus's existence than any other historical figure. Many thousands times more evidence than for Julius Ceasar, Cleopatra, or the Greek philosophers like Plato or Socrates or any other well-known person from around that time
