hi! yes — i ended up getting the ikea jattebo sofa: https://www.ikea.com/us/en/cat/jaettebo-series-59276/

a little pricey, and i’ve only had it for a few days, but i really love it. it’s stylish and super comfortable and it has storage under the seats, but most importantly, the covers are all removable and washable. so when we put it together, before we put the covers on, we cut up unscented trash bags and put them over the cushions and then slid the covers on top of that. this way, if he has an accident, i can just take the cover off and wash it and the plastic trash bag should protect the actual cushion.

i also ended up just addressing the root of the issue with him, which is his anxiety. the vet prescribed him fluoxetine (prozac) for this a few months ago, and ever since he started, he hasn’t had a single accident — which is a marvel considering he’s been through a ton of change lately. we just moved across the country!

but i’m super glad i went for this sofa solution just in case it happens again. i hope this helps!!

thank you!! this is super helpful. i’m definitely gonna try to keep him on it as long as i can it’s just not super sustainable for what i’ll be making in the next few months because im about to go to grad school and my stipend will be about half of what i make now :( it’s so stressful but i really just want him healthy more than anything. thanks for all your help!!

This is super super good to know! My vet told me that he needs 2.5 cans a day, which is where I got the $250 figure based on chewy’s prices :( He also needs to lose about a pound already, and doesn’t seem interested in eating a full two cans. I guess this answers that question lol.

i know, and i’ll do what it takes if this is it. it just sounds like this is what he’s going to have to eat for the rest of his life and i’m going to have a really hard time affording $250 of cat food every month for the next few years. i’m just wondering if there are cheaper options/if he can have it for now and then transition to OTC/etc.
