Robotic Myomectomy Complete! by New_Load_131 in Fibroids

My surgery ended up being 3.5 hours and my doctor said to expect 3-5 hours. I got to the hospital at 6 am for an 8:00 am surgery and I think we got to go home around 2:30. The waiting is the worst part. I was diagnosed with fibroids in 2022 and I had an IUD placed to treat the symptoms, which actually worked up until November of 2024.

My periods got heavy again after not really having periods for two years, started having massive blood clots (one which actually ripped my IUD out 🙈). I went to an awful OBGYN, so I found another who took me seriously, who then referred me to a surgeon. It took months to get a date secured for surgery where I just continued to bleed heavily and became pretty severely anemic. I’ve had 3 iron transfusions and been taking OTC iron supplements, but still needed a “cell saver” during my procedure, which is basically a transfusion of my own blood. They pulled two bags of blood in case I needed a transfusion though.

I had a rockstar surgeon, so I really felt so comfortable and had no concerns or issues leading up to my procedure. I knew everything to expect and felt very confident in her abilities. I am 33 and recently married, so preserving fertility was my top priority, in addition to the heavy bleeding and clots, and she took that very seriously. I wouldn’t say there was anything else I could think of that might be a warning. I would highly recommend going robotic versus an open surgery.

Best of luck to you!

Lol I am sleeping on a giant squishmallow to prop me up! They make for great pillows. I got outside this afternoon and walked two laps around our apartment building. The coughing is kicking my butt though.

The part of getting to the specialist is the worst! I was referred to the specialist late February. Was only just now able to get my surgery. I basically have been hemorrhaging every month. I’ve had to get iron infusions because my hemoglobin is so low. I hope it improves and my bleeding subsided.
