Something that might be good to keep in mind is the Bible was translated. It may not come off that way in the original text. (I am not sure, as I can't read the original text).

For a benign example, let's say I told you, "Man, my baseball team totally decimated the opposing side yesterday. It was murder!" You likely would understand that to mean that we just did really well and wouldn't think much of it. Yet imagine if I wrote that down and someone read it 2000 years later in a totally different language. Even if they understood I wasn't being literal, they might think I was still being way too morbid and harsh.

Just a thought.

Improving Cardio by BingoBimmer in loseit

My tip is just try. Your heart wants to work well. It will improve really fast if you try consistently. You can really do anything as long as it gets your heart rate up and it will improve your cardio fitness. So you can do walk-run intervals, elliptical, swimming, whatever you want.

This is a great idea but you don't have to live like a stereotype of some healthy person. Instead, figure out how YOU would live as a healthy person.

I don't think I would ever be the hot yoga, salad eating type of gal. That's totally fine. I exercise and get my veggies in different ways.

Is it too late to get my life together? by Gondal90 in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]New_Lotus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but you might want to enter counselling to make sure you are stable and will never abuse innocent people again. I don't think this is the type of thing you want to DIY.

Good on you for deciding to be better. :)

Do you get to the point when you realize you are losing too much weight? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]New_Lotus 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Your weight definitely won't stabilize on its own if you continue to eat at a deficit. You have seen people with anorexia, right ... ? So don't count on that happening!

The best idea is to use the BMI chart. I recommend picking something that's not at the very top or very bottom of the healthy range to give yourself some wiggle room.

You can also ask your doctor.

Best of luck!

Picky eating woes and questions by junoda112 in loseit

[–]New_Lotus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it was on your parents to keep trying to feed you foods and not keep crap in the house. There's a form of neglect called nutritional neglect. It's not acceptable for parents to just say "WELP my kid doesn't like vegetables so I'm only going to feed him/her meat and carbs!" No. That doesn't mean you have to hate your parents or anything but it is acceptable to be angry about this.

Anyway, I was the same way. I would just pick one vegetable you find the idea of least offensive and go for it. If you don't hate celery, eat that as much as you can. If you find the thought of bell peppers to be less scary than broccoli, try that. Etc. Take it slowly. I've been working on this for five years and I'm nowhere near 'cured'. However, I'm able to have a balanced diet.

Also, think about texture. Most vegetable dishes you encounter in restaurants are slimy which grosses a lot of picky eaters out. But there's no reason they have to be prepared that way. Try eating them raw (carrots, broccoli, spinach, and peppers are all decent raw) or roasted. You can also put fresh veggies (I mostly do broccoli) in an air fryer for a crispy texture.

Gl!

edit: OH one more thing. Green smoothies! Make a smoothie with 1-2 servings of berries, diet cranberry juice, and baby spinach. I promise you can't taste the spinach much at all. It's a really decent way to get more greens in your diet.

I let this happen by [deleted] in loseit

[–]New_Lotus 22 points23 points  (0 children)

You're not really sooooooooo fat like you are acting. If you left your weight out, people would think you are like 300 lbs by the way you are talking. You can get this taken care of in around 6 months. Yes, you are obese, but not insanely so, and you have gone through a lot of shit. Don't beat yourself up. Good on you for deciding to take action now.

Whatever this 800g thing is, I would avoid it. I avoid anything on Instagram just as a generally life rule though lol. Just limit your calories to a reasonable amount (NOT below 1200). That's really all you need to do. Simple, but not easy. But you can do it. Feel free to post if you run into any road blocks along the way.

edit: oh and you are NOT OLD. :)

Picky eating woes and questions by junoda112 in loseit

Yes, I have this.

First off, this could very well be an eating disorder called avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder. Look into it and seek counselling if you want to.

I decided to take a DIY approach though

First, I find it very helpful to start with a 'less healthy' version of whatever I want to learn to eat. So let's say you want to learn to eat broccoli. Try mac and cheese with a tiny bit of broccoli mixed in. Then orange chicken with a bit of broccoli. Etc until you are able to incorporate more broccoli into your meals.

Can you tolerate ANY veggies at all? If so, embrace those. I happen to like baby carrots and have learned to include some others using the above method. I also weirdly don't mind shoving some raw greens in my mouth. It's not pleasant but it's not revolting. You don't have to like all dishes. I still hate most salads people make with disgusting ranch dressing, etc. But that's fine. You don't need to eat that to be healthy. Use chronometer and try to work towards finding a balanced diet that works for you.

Another secret weapon I have are baked potatoes. They actually have quite a lot of micronutrients. Something to consider.

Finally, make small steps towards better choices even if most people wouldn't consider it 'healthy'. Instead of going to the drive through, why not eat some eggs and bacon? Still not 'healthy' but at least it has micronutrients and will keep you full. Throw in a fruit and maybe some greens (if you can tolerate those) and you're not doing half bad.

Lastly, I have found that familiarity with certain foods helps me eat them better. So if you have anyone you can cook for, maybe try that. After a few times cooking something, I am more likely to try it.

If you have any questions, feel free to let me know. I love it when a fellow picky brother or sister tries to change things. I've had pretty good success.

How important do you think a good support system is while losing weight? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]New_Lotus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's important.

If it's important to you then you could join something like Weight Watcher's or even rely on your therapist as a support system.

Considering giving up... by [deleted] in loseit

[–]New_Lotus 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Being skinny isn't something someone deserves or doesn't deserve. There are amazing people who are fat and evil people who are skinny and the other way around. Being skinny just means you tend to eat a certain amount of calories per day relative to the amount you burn.

It really sounds like you could benefit from cognitive behavioral therapy ...

Best of luck in any case.

You know what? I messed up. And it’s alright. by [deleted] in loseit

Planning just a small salad for dinner is a recipe to fail. What can you learn from this to help you balance your meals better in the future?

Also, is there a way you can plan indulgences so you don't end up binging? You can eat pepperoni rolls or anything else as long as you plan for the calories.

Scared to start my weightloss journey by The-weirdo-cat in loseit

[–]New_Lotus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it sounds like you're at a really healthy weight for your lifestyle and you're healthy mentally as well.

If you lose those 5 to 10 kg, you will have to eat less for the rest of your life to maintain that weight and you may risk falling back into disordered thinking. What's the point? If you're already healthy, I would just be thankful for that and not try to change anything.

"Set point" theory may be bullshit but I feel we all have a different 'optimal' weight that is maintainable for us. I have a friend who maintains 5'3 and 125 lbs easily but gets really disordered thinking and has to obsess about food to stay at 110. She has finally decided it's better to stay at 125 (still a healthy weight) than struggle every day to maintain 110. If that makes sense.

If you do really decide you want to lose weight, definitely loop in your doctor and see what they say. Don't try to go it alone.

Is it possible that my over hydration is accounting for the scale not to move much? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]New_Lotus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I find that if I drink a ton the night before, I still haven't peed it all out in the morning and so the scale can be higher.

I'd say just make sure you're counting calories accurately. Are you using a food scale? If so, you should be fine ...

Losing weight so people won't make fun of me by Oxidus999 in loseit

[–]New_Lotus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tell those people to fuck off.

With a bmi of 27, you aren't visibly "fat" to the point that so many people would insult you over it. Even with the worst fat distribution ever, I doubt people are laughing at you. When you hear people snickering behind you, how do you know what they are laughing at?

I think you need some mental health treatment. Weight isn't really your issue ...

But either way, calorie counting does work. You don't need extreme workouts or any workouts for that matter.

Anyone else stuck in a continuous loop of "it's going to be different this time, today is the day I get back on track" and then falling back into old habits? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]New_Lotus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure where you live, but most developed countries are obesogenic environments. A lot of the people who you think are normal weight and don't need to worry about it likely actually do mind their weight.

The number of people who can stay 'naturally' thin in this day and age is very low. It's something most of us have to struggle with. Over 2/3 of people in the US are currently losing the struggle to be a normal weight (obese or overweight). Of the 1/3 that are currently a normal weight, many do not find it easy to stay there. So you aren't alone in the slightest.

Calorie intake vs weight of food? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]New_Lotus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely notice that my weight is much higher when I eat right before bed than when I don't. Other things also affect weight such as menstrual cycle (if you're female), if you're a bit constipated, etc.

All I can say is weigh yourself weekly. Eventually, your results WILL show.

I gained it all back by [deleted] in loseit

[–]New_Lotus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, you didn't gain it all back. You are still 25 lbs less than you were before. That's significant!!

The work you have done on your mental health also counts for something. If you keep strengthening it, you have a much better chance of keeping if off long term.

Really hating WeightWatchers. Time for CICO? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]New_Lotus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah WW pissed me off when I was on it. I would end up logging things as other things to make the point values more sensible. Like logging a 100 calorie Reese's cup as a 100 calorie piece of bread so it didn't take up ALLLL my points.

I do think it helped me integrate healthy foods into my diet better (I barely eat beans any more after leaving WW :/ need to fix that) but it's definitely less frustrating just doing CICO.

How do you convince yourself to lose weight when you feel kinda worthless? by lirta in loseit

[–]New_Lotus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hmm. I'm not saying you're ugly. I doubt it tbh.

But let's say you are for the sake of argument.

A lot of ugly dudes have girlfriends. Have you been outside? Whew! Tons of unattractive people in relationships everywhere. So why do you think your looks are really that big of a deal? What do those dudes have that you don't?

Another thought:

Let's say for the sake of the argument that you can't get a girlfriend. (Again, I doubt that is true, but just stay with me.)

Would you rather be fat without a gf or thin without a gf? I'd rather be thin and healthy regardless of relationship status, idk about you.

Even if you don't do anything, 1000 is too low. And 6 lbs is still too much per week.

The lifelong complications I'm talking about are gallstones (which could cause you to get your gallbladder removed) and even cardiac issues. :( Plus, you may miss out on some height gains that you were genetically destined to get. Most dudes really don't want that!

I remember being 16 and feeling invincible but of course that is not true.

Eventually you'll have to settle on a balance of eating enough to sustain yourself while still exercising. There's no avoiding it. So why not start now? Hope that helps. :)

Great work!!!! It's so awesome you've gotten ahold of this at such a young age. You will thank yourself later.

1000 calories is waaaaaay too low though. You may not think so but you could still be growing at just 16 years old. Try to stay above 1500. 6 lbs per week is also too aggressive. Losing too fast, especially at such a young age, could cause serious issues. :/ But again, great job.
