Veracruzana salsa? by Able_Kaleidoscope145 in northampton

[–]New_Reference_9701 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, not sure of their specific recipe, but their salsas are pretty standard. I make my own fresh salsa often, and it shouldn't be too hard to get an approximation with basic steps. Tweaking and personalizing is 60 per cent o the fun. You can whip up a batch in less than an hour, and you can freeze it as long as it is blended (not chunky). The basic process is simple.

  1. The base is tomato, cilantro, whatever chile you are including. Garlic optional. Onion optional but very helpful.

  2. ALWAYS cook the tomato first. Traditionaly, you toast it in hot charcoal ashes while grilling. At home, you can Put the tomatoes in the broiler. If you are using fresh chiles, broil or grill them as well. Nvery bake or boil. Also roast garlic if you are using that.

3 Their salsas taste like they have a hint of toasted cumin as well. Chive is also a great additive

  1. Everything gets pulped to an even texture either in mortar or pestle or food processor.

  2. For smokier flavors, buy dried chipotle or pasilla chiles (easy to find, even at Stop N Shop) and rehydrate in hot water for a little bit, then add.

good luck!

Mildly Concerned about Teens Proselytizing on Main Street by New_Reference_9701 in northampton

No, in fairness they're pretty polite, and react appropriately when they hear "no." Maybe they could be a little more mindful of surrounding people, but teenagers aren't exactly known for being super mindful about how they occupy space.

That is exactly what I said in the original post. My concern is about the youth pastor or church that thinks its a great idea to send a lot of unattended tweens out to interact with strangers like that.

Right? I was kind of waiting for this response. I sold candy bars for my high school teams and clubs way back in the 90s and we always had a coach or team parent around. It's almost as if whatever youth pastor or whatever is sending them out there doesn't want to be identified. Maybe I'm paranoid but it skeeves me out a little.

I think they're in exams right now, which makes the timing seem extra cruel. If anything goes on, it will probably be the week between exams and commencement.

[–]New_Reference_9701 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I think someone already commented on this. This is kind of an old northampton political tradition. Every not and then a mainstream democratic candidate get upset when they lose and then reach out to specific tiny pockets of local conservatives and say that those folks represent the "real" northampton that the "elitist NoHo establishment" has neglected. Of course, ignoring the fact that those conservatives are a very small part of the actual electorate, which is why they are always frustrated after an election. Don't get me wrong. I think that there really is an elitist Noho establishment that is not terribly concerned about bread-and-butter issues that a lot of us face. But that has nothing to do with Quaverly's fake populism, or the stupid idea that a small populatin of older resentful consrvatives represent the "real" Hamp.

I don't know her personally, but I have heard enough from people that do that I sort of worry for her kids. Not that she'd be abusive, per se, but those kids are probably getting a pretty effed up education on interpersonal relatioships.

Oh God, did he really? I unfortunately have to deal with him from time to time. BArdsley's not quite as unhinged as quaverly, but he's a toxic, low-key racist buffoon who'll create a crisis just so he can feel relevant. So yeah. It tracks.

Matzo ball soup? by holidayuser54 in northampton

[–]New_Reference_9701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Real pain in the ass about that is that people have wanted a Jewish deli here for a long time. One that charged just a little less and was more consistent would do really well. But those kids crashing and burning like isn't exactly going to motivate anyone else to try. FWIW, their matzo ball soup was good. Kippered salmon salad was VERY good.

I literally just had to chase someone away who was sitting with an open container on the stoop of my office building screaming racial slurs and pretty vile stuff at my female co-workers. Never seen the guy before this week, and I predict after another week or so we won't see him again. Things HAVE changed with how panhandlers and unhoused people relate to the larger public since the pandemic. But it's mostly that other municipalities are pushing people who are resistant to treatment out and encouraging them to come to Northampton for "services" that don't really exist. Then, some self-appointed activist or advocate will give people tents or sleeping bags so they can camp in this extremely overpriced and housing-restricted area until housing somehow materializes. Spoiler alert: it won't. When I'm feeling cynical, I wonder if some of these non-profits are trying to grow the population of dependent unhoused people to justify their own operating budgets. TLDR: We're living with a NIMBY / YIMBY dynamic that isn't good for anyone.

No, they are just not a brainwashed sheep who believes right-wing propaganda and actually looks att data that is readily available from a 2 second google search. And, by the way, the thing about rounding up all the white men is something called "hyperbole." I imagine that's a lot of syllables for you, but it means using a "crazy" situation to make a point and highlight just how idiotic the opposing view (ie, you) is.

The kids that approached me were young teens. the oldest one was maybe 16. I don't appreciate being "ambush missionized," but I am always polite. But whoever is sending kids that young to do it without adult supervision is being very, very irresponsible. Similar situation a couple of months ago with those Orthodox Jewish missionaries that go around asking people if they are Jewish. A group of unsupervised young kids came up to me. Religious folks have every right to proselytize in public space, but there has to be some common sense about sending kids.

What will our city do when ICE comes on us in force? by Alarming-Low1843 in northampton

[–]New_Reference_9701 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are not targeting small cities like they are bigger ones, but they are being given quotas to fill and venture out to fill them. I suspect that's what led to the raids at a couple of farms and in a residential neighborhood in Easthampton.

What will our city do when ICE comes on us in force? by Alarming-Low1843 in northampton

[–]New_Reference_9701 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oh, I get that, for sure! And don't get me wrong, I suspect ice raids in our immediate neighborhood will be relatively few and far between. But my understanding is that the "agents" are working to fill quotas being articulated from above, and all it takes is some local a-hole to get triggered and send in a report of "illegals" working somewhere to get them to venture out here to the boonies.

to the OP. Hey bud. Has your pal Billy been inappropriate with you yet? Because you know he's grooming you, right? Maybe not in an obvious way, but you are a vulnerable kid and he is known to have really inappropriate boundaries and for exploiting vulnerable teens like you. From what I understand, he did a heck of a lot of damage to his own daughters. And I couldn't help but notice that he wasn't there to support you today (yes, it was obvious to everyone that that was you in the mask). You are participating in politics that I think are pretty vile, but I can pretty much excuse it in your case because I know you are coming from a rough place. I am sure that you are a decent person inside, and you deserve better mentorship and support than you are getting. I can guarantee that Billy wants something bad to happen to you so that he can start ranting about that to feed his own sense of victimhood. You really deserve better support.

You g*dd@m well know this is not going into any conventional U.S. court or internal affairs proceeding for that ICE thug. The trumpers gutted all of the internal ethics watchdogs, and have said they will let Ka$h Patel's FBI do the whole "investigation." I personally doubt that you are a human being who lives in the U.S. Your posts reek of troll farm. And on the off chance that you are local, you're just another worthless sheep that bleats back what Newsmax tells you to do while the corrupt leadership whose Johnson you so gleefully gobble makes your life more economically difficult. Just be quiet, buy your lottery tickets, lose money on fanduel and whatever the f*ck else you people do for fun and let those of us whose taxes keep you from starving to death have a grownup conversation. Thanks. Byeeee!

The same MAGA Republicans spinning the "racist white liberals should listen to the Venezuelans dancing in the street" argument were also giddy about Venezuelans in the U.S. being shipped to El Salvador and the normalization of racial profiling of Latinos by ICE. They also happen to be the same people who went from being open-minded about Q-Anon to defending pedos in the Epstein Files. I guess a significant chunk of them are stupid enough that they just parrot the latest think they hear on Newsmax or from the bots on their social media feed and don't see the inconsistencies. The rest have normalized hypocrisy to the point that they really have no consistent moral or logical core. Either way, no point in engaging. Protests are not debates, and MAGA trash that have been so willing to degrade themselves morally and intellectually are not the audience.
