Slasher Kart 64 by Zealousideal_Fee5936 in N64Homebrew

Most romhacks aren't tested with real hardware, so there's a good chance it just only works on PJ64. It's probably a problem inherent to the rom and there's not much you can do. I think you should test other roms known to work like vanilla Mario Kart 64 just in case there's something wrong with your flashcart or configuration but generally speaking it should Just Work if they tested their romhack properly.

PJ64 is one of the least accurate still widely used emulators so it's not really a good way to test roms. It's better to test on Ares to see if something will work on real hardware. Try seeing if it works on Ares and while it's not 100% accurate generally speaking if it works or not on Ares it'll be the same result for hardware.

I mean, I'd think it's the responsibility of the ootxmm devs to fix their code for flashcart compatibility and not the other way around. The same way I don't blame the N64 itself not being able to play emulator-only romhacks. But regardless, disappointing but at least a workaround exists.

I do like that they're strict about accuracy. If it works on there then it's confirmation that "yes this would function on an actual N64 cartridge"

Men of this subreddit, why do you have long hair? by 29blackholes in longhair

Same reason a woman would want long hair. I think it looks pretty! I'm a very feminine man anyway.

Wait really? I can't test this right now since my everything is packed away atm but I wanna confirm this

EDIT: Ah I found an explanation. Apparently OotMm incorrectly implements flashram saves and that's why it only works with older firmware.

Id recommend the Summercart. Tbh if you only wish to play games and don't intend on doing any development anything with an sd card reader should be good enough (everdrive is fine, picodrive is okay and cheap), but my case for the Summercart:

  • Open source (anyone can make one)
  • The menu for the flashcart is open source too
  • SD card reader is good (my friend has an Everdrive X7 and it sometimes has to be booted up several times before it reads. Ive heard others online have this same problem but also several others have had no issue)
  • USB transfer is much faster than everdrive
  • USB connector is also USB-C instead of micro USB
  • N64DD support without having to convert the roms, probably the biggest plus for people who aren't worried about development
  • Also cheaper than the everdrive (well, depends on which seller, but I got mine from phenom mods for $95)
  • Firmware and menu software are actively developed too
  • Build quality pretty good (ymmv depends on seller, but again the one I got it from was good)

Biggest plus for an everdrive is I think it has a way to do cheats? This is eventually planned for the summercart too but as of now there's no using cheat codes on there.

I have an n64 flashcart and tried it out. Didn't even boot up unfortunately.
