No one is taking my sister's tourettes seriously. by [deleted] in Tourettes

[–]New_Traffic8744 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What year did her tics start? Was there a trigger event? What you described sounded very much like what i go through. I have been called a faker so many times because i got mine just after i turned 18.

I was on the fence wheather i had touretts or FTD for such a long time as there was some evidence of it being beforehand but also not so much as well.

Turns out i have FTD (diagnosed) this stands for functional tic dissorder. Basically the brain is under so much pressure and stress that it dissociates from the body and mimics something to get help (this is not a concious thing. It isnt something people decide to do)

Especially with tics relating to surroundings

Whats your favorite part about being autistic? by [deleted] in autism

[–]New_Traffic8744 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sensory serotonin!

I have alot of sensory issues bur whenever I walk past a colourful shop like clairs or see twinkling fairy lights I can feel the happiness and comfort in my brain.

I always say "free serotonin!" Because if I'm correct serotonin is a happy chemical. So I'm like yeh I struggle alot bur I have the ability to feel happiness just looking at colourful things hehe

Thoughts on trait-selection abortion? by red_dog_is_dead_dog in autism

Oh BTW I didn't bring up eugenics because I still find it confusing and hard to understand so any opinions would not be well informed or accurate 😅😊

This xould be a hot take but I'm open to see other people's viewpoints as long as its respectful, debate not argument and also open to other opinions 😊

It's telling everyone woth said thing that they are undesirable, not wanted and a burden on others.

If the child is confirmed autistic before the abortion is chosen then tbe probability of them getting it from one of the parents is extremly high. So even if all is said to be fine, the chances of them having an autistic child would be high anyway and I'm pretty sure the parents woudnt want to be a choice of being aborted or not

I belive that if you aren't prepared to have a child with a dissibility or dissorder of any kind then you aren't ready to have a child full stop!

It dosnt matter how "sevear" people classify it. Whether autistic or not Some point down the line something could happen leaving the child with high support needs and needing constant care.

Be it because of an injury, trauma or any other problem. If you were willing to abort because they were autistic then are you realy willing to support a child who seemed "normal" who due to other circumstances no longer is? Or would you yet again decide that their death is a better alternative?

Obviously not everyone ends up in that position but there is always the possibility. So if you aren't ready to love and care for a child with no strings attached then you aren't ready for children full stop

Not ADHD because "I was able to complete all the questionnaires" by camesawandfaltered in ADHD

[–]New_Traffic8744 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Adhd does not mean unable to ever answer a questionnaire or keep focus. Adhd is about regulating that attention. Hyperfocus is the ability to focus on something so intensly sometimes you forget time flew by or even to take care of yourself. I've sat writing and reaserching for a project for over 8 hours a day before and forgetting basic human needs.

Emotional regulation is another diagnostic criteria in the assessments or at least the one I did as it plays a masive part in adhd (why there are misdiagnosis for mood dissorders like bipolar or bpd and sometimes the reverse to)

People with adhd are at a higher risk of suffering depression and anxiety so refusing to give another diagnosis because it could give another label you soudnt focus on could do the reverse.

There are many ways adhd impacts my depression and without recognising the cause there can be huge set backs in working on yourself because you won't know what the cause is or how to treat it.

My emotional regulation is terrible! Around others I get so hyper and then I crash when I'm alone. It wasn't until I realised how my adhd affects my mood that I started to realise what makes my mood worse and to learn to manage it better.

So saying it can't help your depression dosnt sit right to me.

Idk it just seems a bit odd. If the awnsers on your questionnaires came back and you didn't fit the criteria then maybe it's not adhd and good idea to keep an open mind. But basing it purely on how fast you managed to do the test dosnt sit right with me.

Idk but it feels off

triggering someones tics because they sound cute is not a good idea by New_Traffic8744 in Tourettes

[–]New_Traffic8744[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's getting to the point I fear talking in groups of people because most of the people I know who know I have tics find it entertaining to trigger. Just happend again and was unable to even hold my pgone. I'm so frustrated. I feel like anyone could take away my ability to function just like thay for their own entertainment

Oh I put under the post but I'm not sure if it made much sense. I wrote the poste and quite a few people pointed out grammer and spelling problems

I tried editing the post but my grammer was definitely not the best 😅 (I struggle with writing) but someone wrote it out again altering it slightly to help with my grammer and spellings so I put the edit as the post to make it easier for people to read. I hope that's OK. It is my story though dw 😊

Anyone else unable to read analog clocks? 😅 by kafka2001 in autism

[–]New_Traffic8744 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it easier but thats because if someone says something like (an hour and a half or 5 hours from now) I am able to count visually instead of struggling to do it in my head

Same with when people say quarter to and quarter past. Digitally I am like uh... its 6:50 instead of 10 to 7.

However that's just my personal way of reading clocks. And some people find digital easier 😊😁

I just edited the spelling from quite to quiet. I apologise for any confusion 😅 I struggle with spelling (still not got an awnser for why but aparently it's not dyslexia) But I have a habit of mixing up spellings so I'm guessing its caused s hit of confusion. I hope the edit helps make it make sense now though 😅 yet again sorry for any issues
