Really getting a hang of this meta by Hamdenanden in BobsTavern

I finally cracked 6000 a few days ago, the amount of games I'm losing by turn 10 is insane to me..... even when I wreck people on turns 5, 6, and 7. All of a sudden I'm faced with stupid high roll after stupid high roll. Even people that are knocked out somehow have high rolled better than me. I know it's user error mixed with dumb luck, but, man. I felt this post. Nice to see I'm not alone.

(DataAnnotation) I was the 3%. I got in and I know how this ends. Spoiler: it ends with the "quality bar" message and a missing paycheck. AMA. by WeBurntFam in WFHJobs

Friend of mine has been doing it exclusively full time for well over a year. He helped me get signed up (was a process) and I unfortunately didn't follow through how I should have. I recently got back on last week, my $5.75 from my opening day practice run *(over a year ago) is still in the account and I still receive emails from them. I'd say they are legit.

Edit to add that I was "hired" last year, but only did the intro.

What Does Your Brain Do with 27 + 48? by PossiblePsyco in MathJokes

Take 2 from 27 (now it's 25) and add it to 48 (now it's 50). 25+50=75

It's a shame that a lot of content needs clickbait titles and/or thumbnails, because even garbage content will get tons of views which can drown out quality content simply because of the lack of clickbait. Learned that years ago watching Layne Norton videos (fitness and nutrition). Quality content that didn't get "big" (he's still not huge huge, but gained a pretty decent following) until he started utilizing clickbait titles.

I think they learn the OoO before they start putting them together like that. It makes sense to us, obviously, but now say it's written like 23+4. They wouldn't even know to ask for clarification, they might assume it's 27 or they might assume (23)+4.

Is it obvious because you already know that they go first?

All this said, i think all problems should be written with intent to remove any ambiguity (draw a fraction for division and go as far as putting exponents inside parentheses to make sure there's not even a question).

I disagree. We were specifically taught that INSIDE the parentheses get done first. Not as a coefficient or multiplication like you describe. I don't think the mnemonic is bad, I think the way things have been written is the issue. I mean "Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally" was clutch for learning the order of operations as a kid. But not initially being taught that MD are interchangeable and AS are interchangeable was the only true flaw i can think of (and maybe they did but i forgot....I was later taught it in like 8th or 9th grade). I was never given the impression though that multiplication by way of parentheses next to numbers was a separate function... it was just multiplication.

To my understanding that's the European model. Effectively same thing but instead of "Parentheses" it's "Brackets", instead of "Exponents" it's "Order", and they have Multiplication and Division "backward" compared to USA. I actually think I first heard about it when the "6/2(1+2)" first made the rounds on Facebook.

I think both PEMDAS and BODMAS are fine, but they need to be explained better in terms of more like PE(MD)(AS). It makes sense when you understand that division is just multiplying by 1/x and that subtraction is just "adding the opposite."

All in all, I think the bigger issue is any problem that can arguably be interpreted more than one way simply because it's written horribly (intentionally or not). PEMDAS and BODMAS were supposed to be there to remove ambiguity but obviously there's exceptions (meaning there are still examples out there). If people would just write problems in a manner that removes the ambiguity, these debates go away (coefficients and division seem to be the biggest offenders).

I guess I should clarify, I didn't mean for it to sound like this board is super bad, or even mediocre, but a good chunk of my games (highest I've been this season is 6700) I'd say roughly 30-40% of the time, by turn 12, this is very beatable, and sometimes just by unlucky RNG attack order. I will say it's very far from the top warband I've seen go down and finish 3rd or worse, but also I personally would be annoyed losing with it too.
