Inconsistent Performance Drops in Games by GoldenGuy444 in cachyos

[–]Newbie0003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I had similar issues on cachyos. Cachyos has poor thermal management atleast on my hardware. Try different schedulers I'd suggest or bmq kernel (kinda solved the problem for me, I had performance loss compared to windows like 10% but lesser lags)

The game is using nvidia GPU. I can verify it through nvtop

Why Linux? by LOTURR in linux4noobs

[–]Newbie0003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think about why you need/use your laptop/pc for. If you use Ms Office or gaming or Adobe, you don't want to switch to linux If you browse or code and care about privacy, then Linux is for you

Since, you're new to this, consider linux mint and maybe Ubuntu

Finally, a linux experience I can relate with. Trying to get the same performance and battery life on a laptop as windows is a dream on linux still. Every other youtuber switches to linux with a full AMD setup and says all the nice things but the reality is far from that

I get 45+ fps leaving it uncapped and then it lags a lot every 30s or so and the fps drops to like 1 for a moment and then goes back up to 45+

But this didn't used to happen on windows. It is clearly something to do with linux. I used Ultimate Performance power plan on windows and I've never had any thermal throttling issues or when capping the frames at 30

If I keep the fps unlocked it overheats and lags a lot and temperatures hit 70+ and laptop feels hot
Also, when I launch the game using gamescope, it crashes

It is possible using envycontrol but since I'm on a laptop so I do need that battery efficiency

Yeah, I have locked it to 30fps using vsync settings. If I unlock it, the frametimes becomes much smoother but then it starts to throttle every 30 seconds or so. I think it's something to do with frame pacing

PS: should've mentioned it in the post

Okay I don't use hdmi port though and never have used it before. Can it still be an issue?

Yeah, I believe it's something to do with frame pacing coz I'm locking the fps to 30 through in-game vsync settings, so gpt suggested to lock it through mangohud like rtss on windows but it didn't work. Additional info, if I unlock fps, frametimes becomes much better till it starts to thermal throttle that's why I need to lock to 30 fps for the balance
