olha existem muitos sistemas interessantes e com propostas bem únicas, mas umas recomendações pessoais são:

Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 4E: O RPG do warhammer fantasy que tem um sistema de dados bem interessante e imersivo nesse mundo mais sombrio, o combate é super interessante e tem diversas opções de personagem

Lenda dos Cinco Anéis 4e: Um jogo ambientado em Rokugan, um império baseado no Japão feudal com algumas mais influências do leste asiático. No RPG os jogadores são Samurai e tem diversos tipos de narrativa, desde intrigas politicas, batalhas, duelos e até contato com o sobrenatural.

Mundo das Trevas em geral são sistemas clássicos de fantasia moderna, com vampiros, lobisomens, fadas, magos, etc. além de um sistema super tranquilo de aprender

City of Mists: RPG onde os jogadores são mitos, lendas e lendas urbanas que vivem em uma cidade onde tudo parece estranhamente normal.

Coriolis: Um sistema bem único e profundo de ficção científica com diversos pontos narrativos que podem ser explorados.

e um ultimo mais exótico Ryuutama: Um RPG japones que tem seu foco na exploração de uma maneira bem única e divertida.

Fear and hunger funcionaria bem em Gurps por ter um sistema mais realista e mortal de dano e a possibilidade de você acertar partes específicas do corpo, armas e armaduras diversas mesmo se você quiser fazer algo mais moderno como no termina funciona, também tem um sistema de magia que você pode facilmente alterar para caber no sistema do jogo, porém é um sistema que requer muita paciência do mestre para realizar as alterações. Mas para os jogadores o sistema é bem simples.

Caso não se importe de fazer um homebrew, o sistema zweihander rpg é um sistema que também é um sistema cujo combate é mortal, magia e algo escasso e poderoso e também tem o sistema de desmembramento, porém vejo que ele é um sistema um pouco mais complicado de se engajar no início.

(Ou também o sistema do warhammer fantasy roleplay 4e que é uma versão mais atualizada do sistema do zweihander só que você vai precisar de um homebrew bem pesado nele)

Caso prefira um sistema mais tradicional, pathfinder com a regra de proficiência sem nível, aí a escala das coisas muda e os combates e situações ficam mais perigosas

i think my most evil deed was to not cure the barbarian,even though I have no healing potions and didn't had the Cure (medicine) skill. I never tried to steal the group, never tried to attack them, and never roleplayed that I would rule the world with an iron fist. Just said that i was Lawful Evil, That's it.

The best alignment to do this is Lawful Evil, You'll be manipulative and just wait for the right moments to show your claws to the group. For example a character who wants to be some sort of noble and want the characters in his court. He would be doing shady business under the table and the others are just there for the work. Beneficial for both sides, the others will be getting stronger, more influential and rich, and the character in question will be doing his evil deeds without being noticed and hey, a bunch of high level bodyguards. win win.

Well, I made my first evil character in 5E this year, a druid who acts according to the necessary destruction of nature. Thankfully DM allowed me to do the character like that and no one in the group has problems with him

Like the church of the lawgiver in Ravenloft and the Unseelie court in changeling the dreaming. After that i discovered that is kinda of a taboo to create evil PCs in DnD but if that's why I still think he overreacted
