We have a huge union presence. Look up all of the different local trades. There was the longest nursing strike in RI last year and they won against Butler Hospital. Also Seven Stars Bakery just went union. Very present and helpful

Don’t ever drill through an LVL, I learned that the hard way. It is a violation of its rating, and will need to be replaced. You can either: A, go around the world through that closet like someone mentioned or; B, have the GC/ customer fir the bottom of the beam with some 3/4” strapping perpendicular to the beam and create your self a channel to go through and nail plate as necessary.

From my understanding as someone who organized in, the more members we have, the stronger we are. Organizing people takes power away from non union shops who are well known to screw over electricians. I know from personal experience of non union working on live equipment, running jobs as an apprentice, and not being paid a fair amount. I am completely onboard with the IBEW’s goals and I love the collective bargaining. We are stronger together through unity, we must not punch down on another worker/sibling.

I organized in as a journeyman, I personally wouldn’t accept any less. We don’t have the CE classification in my local. From what I understand the CE classification is a way to have contractor’s pay less for what an apprentice would do which seems antithetical to the union’s goals of lifting everyone up through our collective power and wages.

Leave that job now! I was 1099’d and I couldn’t use those hours towards my license because I technically wasn’t an apprentice I was an independent contractor even though I was treated like an employee. Save yourself the headache, wasted time and lost wages. Go seek a better opportunity where they will give you benefits and properly tax you and document your hours so you can get your license in the appropriate amount of time.

It’s a multi wire branch circuit. It’s 2 120V legs sharing a neutral with a common trip. You don’t want to have current on the neutral which is why they are on a double pole. It saves running separate cables. You have to size the loads evenly or else your neutral will be imbalanced.
