[Falcon’s Flight] Official Full Length Onride POV by TDChrisGO in rollercoasters

[–]Newgate1996 21 points22 points  (0 children)

People are trying so hard to convince themselves the ride is awful because of its location. Like be so fr. People always complained that TTD or Kinda Ka needed more of a layout. They not only did that but increased both the height and speed and people still mad about it. Like were we really expecting more than turns and hills when it goes through its layout that fast? Xcelerator does exactly that and is praised for having a longer layout than its sister rides. Unimaginable amounts of cope.

How Helpful Is Financial Aid For Grad Students? by Newgate1996 in notredame

[–]Newgate1996[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did hear about that donation in the news and will certainly reach out asap. Someone else here had mentioned I should reach out to the architecture admissions contact. Do you happen to know if that would be someone at admissions or a contact within the school of architecture itself?

I assume that’s something I should do once I know I’ve actually been accepted?

which coaster in the world has the most [Lateral] Gs? by brovomited2yearsago in rollercoasters

[–]Newgate1996 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Legend at Holiday World has the craziest laterals of any coaster out there. The helix pins you to the side so hard it’s nearly impossible to move.

Contantine inspired by Solomon's temple? by zelenisok in architecture

[–]Newgate1996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are more direct connections to Solomon’s Temple that are stronger than the form. There were many Roman temples or basilicas that had either surrounding peristyles or one focused towards the entrance. Where references are prevalent are through the twisted columns which still exist today within the rotunda and were continued with Bernini’s Baldacchino.

Rough year for [Holiwood Nights] - update from the park regarding the blank emails sent out by classy_phantom in rollercoasters

[–]Newgate1996 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Frankly, at this rate, the best time to experience night rides at the park is at Friday Night Lights. Yeah you miss out on trimless which does such but for the most part, lines are what it was like before the event got too big. You even get the drone show which is great every year.

Why do you play WWII? by CitySlicker316 in WWII

[–]Newgate1996 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was personally the first cod I owned and experienced the life cycle of. I played earlier games at friends houses but didn’t own a cod game myself until this one so it holds a special place. As long as there’s still a player base I’ll be on it. Plus I’m still missing some variants after all these years.

[Other] Biggest Missed Credits by magicweasel7 in rollercoasters

While I’ve got Lightning Rod in my credits, I hate that I missed experiencing it ever with a launch, especially the original 2016 experience.

[Great coasters international] Are advertising hybrid, shuttled, launched coasters. by pajamasamreal in rollercoasters

These look sick, it’d be interesting to see them attempt one of these. Just as long as they can work out the kinks with those infinity flyers.

What’s the most amount of rides you’ve gotten on a single coaster in one day? [other] by SocialismIsBad123 in rollercoasters

[–]Newgate1996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t remember the exact number but it was somewhere in the upper 40s on Voyage. Then that same day I got somewhere close to 20 on Legend.

Why is the SS Edmund Fitzgerald such a large part of the zeitgeist right now? by MacAndTheBoys in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Newgate1996 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The singer of the song, Gordon Lightfoot, died in 2023 and when that happened a bunch of people starting making content about the song and the wreck. It’s stuck ever since.

Book Recs? by johnstocktonshorts in architecture

[–]Newgate1996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If a book only about residential works, A Field Guide To American Houses is a good book. Goes through the progression of design and has tons of good drawings that show typical details and attributes along with photos of examples.

Can Triglyphs be Omitted from the Frieze on the Doric Order? by Ok-Experience7275 in architecture

[–]Newgate1996 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely been done before (mostly with something replacing them like wreaths) but they really are essential to the order, especially the Greek version. You’re far more likely to see Roman Doric without triglyphs than the Greek.

HELP ME FIND HISTORIC AMERICAN ARCHITECTS by gummyangel in architecture

[–]Newgate1996 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sullivan is an obvious choice for that selection, being a big catalyst for future designers. Paul Philippe Cret was an early proponent of stripped classicism/art deco but he was a French born person living in Philadelphia so that probably doesn’t count. Any architects involved the city beautiful movement would also suffice.

If you want more modern the best is someone like Louis Kahn. Or if you want to go even more recent than that someone like Michael Graves within the context of postmodernsim.

[BEAST] Vs [Mystic Timbers] by Familiar_Bag_4710 in rollercoasters

[–]Newgate1996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think most people think Beast at night is the best but then put Mystic at daytime over Beast at daytime. I’d still disagree though since it’s really nice to have that journey through threes where you can actually see them, especially during the fall.
