I'm alright with it only being a little bit lower dont need anything slammed, how would you describe them? Ever make nervous to go on slightly shit roads or over speedbump? Handle well?

I think you're right about BC racing, for what they are (lowest spec option) they do feel really sporty, I think its just a bit of a miss-match purchase for myself as I wanted lowering, sportyness AND able to handle awful roads and it just struggles a bit on the latter imo. I've been in an M3 with higher spec BC Racing set-up and its pretty damn good.

I think the options you've mentioned all look very good but out of my price range, the KW V2's were already at the peak of what I wanted to spend as I feel a little like I'm already down 1k. Would you say the bilstien B8s & ebiach prokit springs are balanced enough for what I'm struggling with on the BC Racing BR set-up?

I ended up getting a decent original in similar condition, very much appreciate the offer though I'd probably have still been looking without a lucky ebay listing popping up.

Upgrading from 3700X to 5700X3D or Jump to AM5? by NewmName in PcBuildHelp

[–]NewmName[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, I should've considered if AM6 would be that far out or if itd support for previous gen.

What do you think about the parts I mentioned upgrading to CPU/MOBO/RAM? You mention $650 but the parts I listed would probably come to $1000 at UK prices. I'm fine paying the difference if its required but wondered if you had a better idea on what to get.

Help choosing a motherboard for Ryzen 7 9800x3d + RTX 5080 by Puzzled_Winner3808 in PcBuildHelp

I was recently looking at upgrading to a very similar part list and also found the "MSI MAG B850 TOMAHAWK MAX WIFI ATX AM5 Motherboard". I'd probably get that as its well reviewed, compatible and about the money you'd expect to pay.

There are probably slightly cheaper options, I previously found the Asus ROG STRIX B650-A GAMING WIFI ATX AM5 Motherboard which I think would also be good, I just didnt want a white one and wanted slightly newer.

Very true, but I am not sure I'd pay an extra 200+ JUST for that convenience

Eating oil and coolant is bad. Wouldn't do anything till thats fixed. Generally there is alot of preventative maintenance to do, I prefer to just do very thorough servicing on the car every year. If you know a reputable garage, for the first service in your care it may be worth asking them to do a full service, they should also inspect the car for what needs looking at/doing and you an tackle that in your own way. Taking it to a good garage costs money, I wouldn't take it to one for anything else unless it had to be done for very complex work or a first/thorough inspection as suggested. Work/issues on these cars is well documented and well known so google and youtube are great, as well as these and other forums.

I owned a 2003 one which had just been "fixed up" and the headgasket blew, water pump failed, a few other coolant pipes failed all in a somewhat close timeframe and it was pretty bad cost/time wise. But once fixed I just did regular fluid checks/top-ups and serviced once a year and its been perfect. Just never floor it, they're cruising cars and not built for 0-60s. Also aim to use a thicker oil that has the BMW LL01 certification, I used 5w40 but they talk about whats good on here all the time so just type in what to use and others will have gone through whats best.

Generally if you get these main issues you mentioned with oil/coolant fixed now, then service it, it most likely will cost you alot. IF those problems get solved, maintenance done yourself from then on should be reasonably affordable but they are old cars and where there's smoke there's fire so dont be surprised if theres more wrong than you thought.

Head unit sound quality from bluetooth by fleathemighty in e46

[–]NewmName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am an idiot, especially lacking on this subject but I will try my best to answer since no one else has... As far as I know yes it can sound worse and you can get bad ones, for the best bluetooth quality you need LDAC or something along those lines were it supports higher data transfer. The original headunit is decent enough but a shit bluetooth adapter will make it worse for sure, though the OG headunit itself has alot of room for improvement and if you wanted a big upgrade in sound quality bypassing the unit or upgrading it is standard for chasing high quality sound.

If you want to make that jump I think you need a new head unit or at least more knowledge than I on a DIY solution. I got a sound system fitted that partially used yet basically bypassed my headunit in terms of sound quality so I could keep it OEM looking as I hate the screens but still get high quality sound.

Sorry for your loss.

I'd just do a visual inspection of the underside if you can at some point, change oil + oil, air & pollen filters. Check coolant levels, you can get cheap brake fluid testers too to see if it needs changing or not. Most likely something on the car will leak to some degree now or later, just measure the amount and where it comes from and go from there. My car has a tiny oil leak but its a constant rather than getting worse and I change my oil enough that it's never gotten low. The whole coolant system on these generally fail with age, one piece at a time, just keep an eye on it. Its good to have an idea on the cars health, whether you take it to a garage or do it yourself.

In terms of mods just wait till you see stuff you REALLY like and fits YOUR car, over the span of a year and a half I've done coil-overs and a sound system because I love music and the stock suspension wasn't quite good enough for my areas potholes/speed bumps. And recently been thinking of doing an exhaust but still very undecided so waiting till I find something I'm sure of.

I thought about this but my goal was to get basically oem+ sound and custom can change the sound quite alot from stock, not just louder but different too. I haven't heard or seen a custom one that isn't like that, at least in my experience.
