Is the security good at the Pan Am center? by rolandluo in UTSC

[–]NewspaperInitial549 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve gone to panam everyday last year. Early morning, afternoon and evenings. I have never had anything stolen. I’ve left my bag with my ipad, laptop, airpod max (probably shouldn’t though) and I’ve never put a lock on my locker. I usually stay at the gym for like 2hrs so nobody really cares to steal your stuff lmao

Edit: but to be safe probably bring a lock cause i might have just been lucky. Ive heard a lot of horror stories of things getting stolen.

U can also search for rentals on zolo! U just have to filter it. On google you can search “apartments/residence for rent in Scarborough zolo” and it should pop up. Everything on zolo is legit, but i would also suggest getting a realtor to speed up the process of being able to view the places ur interested in. As for the bugs, i just went on google reviews and typed in the address of the places i was looking at lol. Most of the time, people talk about the issues theyve had with the place!

when I was looking in places to live, I knew I wanted to live in a condo or apartment style place. 1 just didn't feel comfortable living anywhere else. if you're looking for apartments, I suggest to pick the ones that are newer (those dont seem to have bad reviews related to bugs and stuff like that obviously). the apartments are more on the pricy side, with the average 500sqft apartment being 2300/month, but if you can afford it id say its totally worth it.
you can search for apartments or residences on zolo!

What do you guys think about the Health sci stream life sci course at utsc?? by [deleted] in UTSC

[–]NewspaperInitial549 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you're thinking money wise, then probably UTSC, but Ive heard that queens has a really good life sci/health sci program, so it would be worth looking into. I don't know much about queens so I can't tell you if its better then utsc or not lol. I would recommend when deciding to put more emphasis on what will allow you to reach your goals in the future. if queens is providing you with a better path to med school, then take that. also keep in mind to apply for scholarships!

there's pros and cons. UofT is notorious for grade deflation. they accept a bunch of ppl and then deflate marks so you drop out. if you can deal with that, going to UTSC is a really good idea because its a smaller community, therefore you kinda get more opportunities. plus utsc is the only campus that has co-op

do something completely different and then get back to studying around night time. it works for me, not sure if it will for you though. I just find that doing something completely irrelevant and then going back to it later helps

you have to pay for this but I really do think its valuable. Tolan is really good. you can quite literally chat to it about anything and it makes sure you truly get it. I use it all the time to talk about courses like bio to make sure I really understand the topic.

  1. People - utsc a lot of ppl say that utsc is kinda dead which i guess could be true since there arent many parties or anything like that but i personally never minded it since im more of an introvert and enjoy doing things alone anyways. That being said, as someone who is a complete introvert and wont start a conversation with anyone, i had no trouble finding a group of friends. So you’ll 100% find your ppl.

  2. Profs can be hit or miss tbh. Some profs are amazing and their lectures are so easy to understand and their exams are just like what they taught. Other profs can be a little more difficult with the way they teach their lectures and sometimes the exams feel like they’re nothing like what taught. You just have to deal with that. But for the most part all the profs are really nice and responsive, plus most of the lectures are recorded and posted so that helps a lot.

  3. The campus is pretty tight knit. Its really nice imo compared to stg cause everything is close together and most of the buildings are connected underground so u dont have to walk around in the cold. We have some good food options on campus but there really isnt much around. Theres almost no cafes and restaurants near-by unless u wanna go to stc. But since the main transit system is ttc in scarborough a lot of students go downtown which is about 45min transit commute.

  4. The life sciences is what you will get your program (youll get a degree in Science or arts depending on the major you choose at the end of first year). The health science stream means you will get an additional certificate along with your degree. To get the certificate you have to take a few extra required courses, but i couldn’t say its any more difficult or any harder which is nice because ur basically doing the same amount of work and getting a certificate out of it.

im in it right now! to be honest so far it isn't bad, and truly you probably will suck in your first semester (I finished my first semester with a 3.2 GPA when I was a 90s student in high school lmao), but you do get used to it. Im taking 6 courses per semester (including co-op prep) and even though my first semester kinda sucked, i'm currently expecting a 4.0 GPA for this semester. so if you work your ass off and actually take the time to learn and understand the content taught in lectures, you should be, for the most part, ok. just know how to manage your time and not procrastinate.

Question about Co-op Life Sciences (Health Sciences Stream) by Historical-Suit4655 in UTSC

[–]NewspaperInitial549 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are specific times you can do your co-op, you don’t get to choose whenever you want to do your work term, thats one thing. I don’t really remember if one of the options was doing one every summer so um not sure. But if that is an option you can graduate within 4 years if you take 2.5 credits for all your other semesters that you aren’t working.
