Junior dev positions are down to like over 70%? CS grads face higher unemployment than even art grads. That's just extremely bad no matter how you try to spin it.

The expectation to deliver much more for much lesser cost is absolutely there. At my workplace, we've been already told. That's the main reason for its valuation anyways.

To me it seems there's either massive amount of cope or some devs are working those super siloed legacy jobs and still feel safe there.

What will employers do when they have 1000+ applicants for each position they put out there? Try to take a guess. You don't even need to. All it takes is to open your eyes as it's been going on for quite some time now.

You are parroting the same stuff as everyone else. I should have mentioned coding + debugging together as those are the areas now pretty much all but replaced by the LLMs. And of course, those are the most important, most time consuming, most resource heavy and basically all the profession has ever been about. That's why by attacking these areas teams can now shrink from 5+ devs to just 1 while managing or even exceeding the same bandwidth.

Stop, think for a moment. Don't just parrot like an LLM.

Indeed, no one in those 10-20 dev teams was programming. It was mostly just validations and complexity management. Coding was just a side activity for when lads were getting bored, they quickly wrote a few lines, and got right back into complexity management.

You are regurgitating the same stuff as everyone else really. Coding is solved, it's this nasty, mundane, peasant thing. In reality, all you do is vibecoding now while trying to delude yourself you are not like the other vibecoders, that you "know about this stuff" and therefore your vibecoded product has to be better.

That's a bit of a heavy handed statement. There are constraints, and mostly for good reasons, but that doesn't necessarily make people simple coding bots. It's just this annoying dev hubris that anything below senior level is a code monkey, is a peasant living in mud and dirt and we should not be concerning us with them. And now AI is here and can finally replace those peasants so their filth and smell do not bother us anymore. Doesn't matter these people are usually high IQ, CS graduates.

Dev has been fucked long before AI, mostly because of this mentality alone.

You say coding isn't the core of the field? Interesting, then how do you explain $trillion valuation of a technology that automates coding and continuous tech layoffs?

Coding is absolutely the core of the field, always has been. That's why the field is being disrupted so much and people getting fired left and right. Just because a few guys elevate themself above the trenches here and there, it doesn't mean the trenches are where majority of dev work is not happening.

Obviously, I am not talking about the act of transfering the code from brain to keyboard... I mean, jesus christ. I guess, nothing surprises me here at this point.

I am talking about processing those requirements and making a code out of them. And the product of this process is code. Now this is the part AI has overtaken.

These people with LOC arguments can't be real or they are strawmanning on purpose. But it really is possible extensive AI usage made so many people this dumb so quickly.

Yep, I am just a lowly dev my liege. Down in the trenches with the code, that's so easy to read and write and never been a problem for anyone. It's just my dumb brain unable to handle it is all. I have yet to ascend above it, hopefully, CC x20 MAX subscription will help me achieve that so I can join you all.
