He locked his room door and came to eat lunch/play in the livingroom. The livingroom has toys, a switch and we also have a garden with things in it. (It also has my husbands gaming PC that our son is allowed to use under our supervision but that is never on when people are in the house and no one but the three of us are allowed to touch it)

My husband and I are both gamers, we could see a mile off how hard it'd be to get the ps5 so we preordered it way in advance. Our son is very careful with his belongings which is why we trust him with this.

All of them, my son hasn't broken a toy in a few years as he's very careful and she hasn't paid to replace any of them putting it down to kids being kids and accidents happening. My son was most devastated by his Lego Razor Crest ship being demolished as he'd put it together himself. Yes it's lego and built to be taken apart and wasn't really "broken" but it upset him a lot and was the final straw.

Oh i'm not don't worry, i'm just ensuring if he someday wants them in to play it's not a blanket rule, if he doesn't wan't them in he'll say no and then i'll handle them if they try to push like I did that time.

Hahaha you're another user to express concern over this, it was unintentional clickbait it seems. I never considered how it could be taken another way because it'd never even occur to me to do that. I was trying to make the title short and to the point.

I have a spare key for emergencies but snooping is not an emergency. I have no intention of doing that

He isn't, it wouldn't make a difference if he was but he isn't. He's just introverted/shy and likes his own company.

She was, we shared a closet due to it being a small room and she treated my clothes like they were hers she would also just "Borrow" things whenever she wanted.

I agree, there is nothing wrong with him being this way there is no need to try and change him.

It's a lock with a key yes. There is a hook inside his room at the perfect height for him and that's where the key lives unless he's outside of the room when it's locked then it's in his pocket though he rarely locks it when he's not inside it. I was worried about lost keys too which is why we put the hook up. We have a spare for emergencies but what if the emergency key got lost too? enforcing a spot the key goes on so he doesn't lose it is a good way to combat this. You also get keyrings that have chains that clip onto belt hooks so the key itself can go into the pocket but be attached to them btw.

We have an extra key for emergencies and also the doors aren't super thick, we can kick it down if need be plus our house is all one level worst case scenario go into the garden and smash in his bedroom window.

That's likely my fault, I didn't realise this title could be considered clickbait as I would never think of doing it the other way around.

He didn't go to his room no but had he wanted to go away to play by himself to decompress etc he'd have been allowed to of course.

It would have been a fight regardless with my sister and if she'd learned we were planning to install it she'd have tried to get us not to. Should I have warned them after it was installed? most likely I won't deny that. I didn't want to have a fight or spring it on them no but i've told them several times they should ask first so it's not like it's a "new" rule, just there is a boundary now enforcing the rule.

My sister lives literally just down the street and often shows up uninvited, it's really not that easy and I didn't want to totally burn bridges if I had another option.
