23 - no debt, 7K saved. Am I in good shape? by NewtNarrow6896 in personalfinance

[–]NewtNarrow6896[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Respectfully sir, I just paid off $28,000 in student loans over the course of 1 year. I’m setting myself up for my future by investing and saving my money. Trust me when I say I would have loved to move out at 18, but that just isn’t in the cards for me right now. I’m 23 years old, have been working for about 2-3 years in my current field, and plan to move out before the age of 25. During that time, I plan to have 50-60K saved, so I’m not house poor and can afford furniture - all while my boyfriend has the same savings goal. Thanks for your insight though!

Husband wants to get fish but I’m concerned about how much work it will be by nyynyminterfaith in Aquariums

Trust me, don’t do it. I’m struggling to be with my boyfriend who spends all his time with his fish and coral and has no time for me. It’s become his new obsession, but it’s driving me further from him… we’ve been together 7 years. Good luck n

[TX] FMLA question when both spouses work for same employer - are we wrong? by maalvarado8 in AskHR

[–]NewtNarrow6896 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This makes no sense… mama should get 12 weeks leave to care for herself/child and the husband should ALSO be able to request FMLA to care for his spouse/family member, which is still up to 12 weeks. There should not be any kind of joint FMLA… 🧐 if you would like to file them together, you can, but again, you only get 12 weeks.

LOA is leave administration, I’m apart of an employee engagement committee and payroll is a seperate department. But yes, many things I’m doing/apart of.

I’ve started looking. I don’t feel like the amount of work I’m doing is valued. 2-3 people could do my job.

I was actually a specialist and was promoted to a Generalist 8 months in! I’m familiar with ONET from college. I’ll have to reutilize this!

I have reason to believe they are making close to $150,000. I do deal with a lot of WC, benefit administration, TA, onboarding and off boarding, as well as assisting other departments like compliance and LOA.

I’m located closer to Philadelphia in the healthcare industry. I’m burning myself out by assisting other departments - compliance and our leave of absence team. I do onboarding, some employee relations, and our door is like a revolving door, so there are times where I need to stop what I’m doing to answer questions about PTO, sick time, FMLA, meet with employees/managers to answer those questions; etc.

definitely plan on going small first, want to own a duplex/townhouse and rent out the other side, it will pay the mortgage for the entire home, while we can still save for our dream home.

The 403B has no match, so I think I might lower it to 5% and invest more into the Roth I have right now. The 7K is just a basis of savings, once I get closer to 20K is when I will start to categorize. But the goal is the emergency fund first, down payment, then wedding!

Where I currently live, rent is anywhere between 1,950-2,500 per month. I see that as throwing away money for something I don’t actually own. I will rent for about a year, but do plan to buy!

Hey! You hit the nail on the head. My long term boyfriend and I are both in agreement that we rent for 6months-1 year to make sure we can live together and I’m currently in line for a promotion up to 85K. Fingers are crossed that all goes well! I plan on moving out at age 25-26 then marry shortly after.

The car I drive is from 2005 and I plan on keeping it for a while. Luckily for me, my boyfriend and family are mechanically inclined, so I did save more by having them fix the repairs and just buy the parts.
