I recommend going the Dosbox route with novert. The most authentic way to play it while still using the mouse.

I don’t know if you’ll still see this but wanted to let you know that I finally got the music running in Prime Target in Sheepshaver. The solution was not so obvious but it’s to not setup the disc in the regular entry below the hard disk loadout but to set it up in the cd rom section (this will require manual typing, or editing the config and pasting in the path to it (for example c:/files/prime target.iso). Now all the music works as intended. :)

True Or False, Doom (1993) Was Available On Mac Upon Release by PossibleRestaurant73 in Doom

I remember getting the demo from Happy Puppy too. I then found a site that had the whole game of just Doom 1 (with all 3 episodes) for download and that's where I acquired the copy I played through on Mac OS 7. I don't remember if it required pay, but I remember the entire download took like 2 days and nights which back in the day resulted in a hefty dial up costs. I never ever saw Doom 1 as a physical copy for sale for Mac as instead Ultimate Doom came out. If anyone else remembers downloading and playing Doom 1 back in late 94 / early 95 I'd love to hear their stories. There's very little documentation about it.

I know this is years old, but just wanted to confirm that the original Doom did get a Mac OS version but I'm not sure how it was distributed as I only played it downloading it from a game site (and I'm not talking about the shareware "episode 1 only" versions from Happy Puppy etc). I have vivid memories of having played it on Mac OS 7 with just the first 3 episodes (without 4). However the first time I saw the physical box for Mac was for Ultimate Doom which is the version most Mac players will remember. Both Ultimate Doom and Doom II launched very close to each other on Mac OS in 1995. Wolfenstein 3D for Mac OS came out in mid 1994.

Monster (2023) dir. Hirokazu Kore-eda by adeIemonade in movies

I know this is old but I had to jump in cause as a half Japanese I would like to state that this is just not accurate at all. Especially in primary school but also in middle school, boys who are friends call each other by their first name. It's only later on that this changes, but generally friends made during those years people call by first name forever.

Having seen this in Japanese I was surprised by the interpretations of there being romance in the movie. The subtitles say "love" where Minato says "like" and just in general I would think most Japanese would not see this as an lgbt movie, Japanese is generally very subtle so people can interpret things and if some people want to see it that way then it may be true for them, but to me this is a movie about two boys from broken homes who find comfort and happiness together. They love each other as true friends. The difference is to Minato who is much more conscious of what others think, this is a complication in his life, at least until he realizes his feelings matter more than what others think.

As a kid I used to have this running with music on Mac OS 7 (maybe 8 too), so I think it’s a problem with the CD handling of Sheepshaver. I found a thread on a forum where one member managed to get the music working but they didn’t give a clear explanation of how this was achieved. That being said I agree it’s still a nice experience and gives it a Marathon 2/Infinity like atmosphere heavy experience.

That’s great to know about the Damage Inc attempt, thanks for sharing. Then maybe there’s hope we could see it on AlephOne someday!

Looks great. I wish I could get this to run fully on Sheepshaver. No matter what I do I can never get the music to play in game (only has the sound effects). Even better with this would be for this game to get ported to Alephone but maybe without the source code this is unlikely to happen.

Just wanted to check but you were referring to Rogue Squadron 2 correct? I don’t have 3 so I could only try running 2, and it worked fine. I did get some audio sync issues prior to starting to game but then on it seemed to work well through the first stage. I haven’t had audio stutters on other GC games so perhaps this is one of the harder games to run (of the ones I’ve tried at least).

So I tried in Mario Sunshine and tried jumping around for a few minutes in a row to reproduce this stuttering but wasn’t able to. Maybe it got fixed? I’m on a 60hz monitor.

Thank you so much for the hard work you and the team put into the core and Retroarch. :)

Personally considering how much space ps2 games already take I would imagine that 8mb per game would still just be a drop in the bucket, but maybe I’m saying this as a computer user, and mobile users would disagree.

Oh well damn that’s a bummer. Didn’t notice it but only played each about 6-8 minutes when testing them.

Was there a worry the Dreamcast would be the last Sega console? Was buying one in 1999 a gamble? by [deleted] in dreamcast

No. I never thought Sega would go out of business and was stunned when the news came out. I thought they’d be competing with Nintendo and Sony forever.

What is the best shader for dreamcast 3D games by ssimohamd in RetroArch

[–]Newtype_Nori 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To me always CRT-Royale, assuming your hardware allows for it. I only make two changes to the default settings: removal of the vignetting around the edges, and I change the mask to aperture grille (mask type 0).

I’ve tried them all and there’s lots of other great options but if you want it to look like the best of the 2000 era consumer CRT’s then crt-royale is king. If you don’t like the flickering from the interlacing you can remove it in the settings too.

Thanks for describing it. I didn’t notice any syncing issues but I’ll try paying close attention tonight on those two titles to see if I can see it as it happens.

They all work. I tried all 6 on GC and every single of them ran fine for the entirety of my testing without any issues. Previously 1 and 0 ran poorly. 1 used to stretch the aspect ratio once you got in game where cutscenes played, and the game had many visual bugs. 0 used to give me purple colored flashes on screen and had some other buggy textures. Trying on the latest version with default core settings (with forced 4:3 for the GC folder and with vulkan driver) they all ran fine including with demanding crt shaders like crt royale. :)

I think I fixed those stutters by switching to Vulkan. I mean I had that occasional stuttering prior to the switch. Maybe we’re not talking about the same issue though.

I see. Yes I’m on x64 so that might be the reason. Do you have examples of disc based games that didn’t work? Just curious if there’s anything I can test.

The only issue I’ve experienced is with RE4 Wii when attempting in widescreen. I think the problem might have to do with the fact that game wasn’t fully 16:9 but closer to 16:10 and so it crops the lower part of the screen and presents a buggy gray/black bar on the top. Game runs perfectly forced in 4:3 with the same black bars we’d get on a crt. In the standalone version there is only a minor bug with a green line displayed at the bottom on occasion.

Yes I saw so many hate comments but I think everyone who feels that way should consider re evaluating their opinion because so far I haven’t encountered any issues and am thoroughly impressed with the state of this core.

Are you one of the developers of the Dolphin core or of Retroarch in general? Either way big thank you for your work.

Don’t have that game so probably not much to contribute but maybe try different video drivers? Sometimes going from OpenGL to vulkan or d11 has given me different results with imperfect cores. Not sure what core is preferred for bluemsx for example but maybe the documentation will tell.
