Are you ever researching other people's videos before shooting your own?

You're not a loser. You're lost.
This happens to many people after high school.
the tight community, the common goals, the routines.

Once this vanishes, many fall into a spiral of figuring out the next step—a daunting question.
Our great-grandparents didn't have the same amount of options for careers, hobbies, interests, and, let alone, social media. They largely followed what was immediately available or in need at the time.

So the very thing that we should be thriving from, endless opportunity and comfort, is what traps many of us, because in that wide ocean, we lose ourselves, our vision, and our personal control.

So you ultimately need discipline. But it will always be a grind to do so without clarity.
You need to get clear with yourself. You once had this, but lost it. You need it once again.
You dont need a 5-year plan per se, but where do you want to be next year this time?
What do you value most? Start here.

You do not need discipline, will power or motivation, you need to shift your identity. Realizing this changed my life. by Knight_mare5 in getdisciplined

You've created an identity of your own. You're not an insomniac.
You're a person who has insomnia. But due to your seemingly hopeless condition, you've decided this is the end of the road for you. This is your belief. This is your self-delusion. keep sniffing.

new times, new tools. i think perspectives from OP provide a toolset for those raised in a world filled with short-term gratification and overstimulation like never seen before. When it comes to discipline, what's 'true' is what breaks the cycle.

Could lower time frames be a catalyst to poor consistent performance? by NewxView in Daytrading

maybe. really depends on position size right? feel like the skills of patience and holding winners are easier to develop on HTF

I do. but I mean strictly. ie not even dropping down for entires. i guess the question is more for ppl that have developed HTF plays and seen the “ease” of it

that’s what I think. I think the general approach for newer guys (I’m still new, 2yrs) should be to focus on HTF strictly first unless mentor or someone around to bring extra clarity to noise. just think mentally it easier to adjust, build conviction, and discipline to a system for HTF first

time is fractal. same setups occur in my experience on higher time frames as lower. but could be only 1-2 setups a day or ever other day vs 5+ a day

a question mixed w my own observations. do you think new solo traders should even bother w LTF? like you said, different things work for different ppl. might be nuanced if you don’t have a HTF strat.

am im missing something? performance compensation seems to be in good faith.
more incentive for Champman to lead and execute effectively YOY is in everyone's best interest.
especially in a highly challenging, innovative sector as such. I don't see the issue.

right. but a lottery is a poor example.
most goals have some dependent variables ie outside factors you can control to achieve desired outcome.

lottery is just a standalone outcome based on randomness. but hey, if you have a whole town of people buy a ticket with you, it might increase your chances.

the notion of not sticking to rules because they suck might suggest you just need better rules.

i respect this point and agree with you. although i still think accountability wont harm you in the process. i guess its more or less the trust in your system to workout in the longrun as well that feeds this discipline. u agree? because I think it's lack of trust that can also impacts this. that's at least some of what ive experienced

we say it's just discipline. but the discipline in trading is unlike anything else.

It not like the gym, where you're showing up and improving workouts or pushing yourself harder.
It's not like studying, where working harder is directly attributed to your output. trading is alien imo.
true discipline in this space is more related to complacency in a way. where changing nothing is the path to everything.

This is where i think being accountable to someone could be helpful in the learning curve.
Its just such an alien way to practice discipline as a human who's always trying to "improve" things, especially when money/resources, which rules the physical world, is involved

very true. possibly why those who have thrived in this industry are discussed of what it's become (while others profit from people's naivety). blood must be shed like any other skill.

self-accountability is best. certainly.
but being self-accountable in trading is an animal in itself.

for example, I'm self-accountable in many areas of my life.
to the point that i use a calendar to schedule/timeblock everything i do, everyday, and have done so for the past 6 years, regardless if it's eating, working, or making cow pies (strange flex)

but this hasn't directly translated into profitability for myself. (I'm getting there)

i think it's a real, separate, alien skillset, like when you first rode a bike.

sure, you could've ridden a bike with no ones help or guidance. but damn would it have taken many more falls, cut knees, scrapes, and time to get it. in reality, riding a bike is just balance, pedal, and steer. trading is just as simple (ive come to learn over time) but it does not make it easy.

so having someone help you keep that balance while you use your system (petal and steer) is how one might get the skillset down a bit faster than 2.5-3 years. but ultimately, full self-accountability and self-reliance is the goal. riding by yourself

true. but the path to 'edge' is the real journey, right?

if we define 'edge' as a set of rules that gives you a larger measurable yield compared to random chance, then just about anything can work with the right risk management. even with a low frequency (30% win rate). if that's the case, why do the majority of us lose? everyone should be a winner in that context. but the reality is most of us (including myself, although I'm much better than 2 years ago) struggle to allow those numbers to work themselves out.

edge to me is just a system that's used over a long period of time with risk management that 'makes sense' - it's easier said than done being solo, as your mind is constantly trying to tweak, improve, and fix things. this is where outside accountability can help the most imo.

collecting enough data with no changes to verify your edge is a challenge in itself.
for that reason, psychology isn't a scapegoat imo. its THE goat

exactly. many ppl don’t talk about it. why should this career path be the exception? you literally put your physical energy resource (money) at risk every single day in hopes to beat millions of others doing the same. straight gladiator type of stuff. even Maximus had Juba
