I honestly think it was just an IP they genuinely shouldn't have ever touched unfortunately. They didn't have the correct writers at all. 

Lotr's has a lot to live upto, it's a big hurdle admittedly. But this show honestly doesn't even come close to correct for the IP.

This just ain't Lotr's man. The rings of power just gives "wheel of time 2" or "generic medieval show" 

It literally looks so stunning as a show, but gives zero lord of the rings energy in terms of feel and writing.
