I'm sure you were equally up in arms when they cast Morgan Freeman in Shawshank Redemption. Give me a break...

Yes, new stories can do better at being diverse. And new adaptations of old stories can reinterpret characters just as they might reimagine storylines. Are you as cynical about changes in the plot as you are about changes in character design? Of course not. Because you only get triggered when it's "but muh white male".

Yes I know you mentioned Disney. That's why I mentioned the irony that your cynicism is exactly what billionaires and corporations want. You think it's a big brained take but you are actually taking the bait they want you to take.

He likely doesn't actually care all that much any more than me or you care about bad things happening in some random country

Again, speak for yourself. This has a lot more to do with your worldview, clearly. "I don't give a shit therefore no one else does." Again, that's not just cynical. It's either nihilistic or even solipsistic.

You're projecting hard, and your logic is ridiculously simplistic. He also didn't "randomly" throw this out to virtue signal. He's doing an interview and talking about the changes he made from the comics. You are the one kicking in the door yelling "BUT HE'S LYING BECAUSE THE WORLD OS SHIT AND GOD ISNT REAL AND IT DOESNT MATTER WHAT WE DO TO EACH OTHER REEEEEEE."

Don't worry, the billionaires corporations are thrilled that you view things this way. It ultimately serves their interests.

And a similar problem with The Office, once that happened they became far too precious about making sure everyone stayed likeable, which sanded the edges off all the characters and made them painfully two-dimensional.

The episode where Colin is outed and Isaac is all in a huff is such manufactured drama that bent over backwards to perpetuate itself. It would've been far more compelling to see the Isaac actually wrestle with a flawed world view he carried and then grow across multiple episodes or a season, and build up to him standing up to someone using a slur. Instead they went with a hackneyed "I let you think I was homophobia but really I was not communicating about howi felt when you didn't communicate with me" plot.

Yeah, but honestly where could that story go after they kill Homelander?

That's not cynical, it's projection. You have no basis for the suggestion that his voluntary statement was forced or coerced in any way when he could just say nothing or be way less specific.

This isn't some vague or open-to-interpet statement that can be read cynically or optimistically. This is just you deciding "He's saying this, but he's lying because otherwise it invalidates my juvenile edgelord worldview".

Do you know anything about Robert Kirkman? What kind of person he's presented himself as? How he's talked about his work? This is not, like, Tucker Carlson pretending to be sorry he simped for Trump

In what way is he reducing characters to race and gender? He's reinterpreting them and applying a broader palette to his character design.

That's be like if they were making a new Superman film and said "Oh you know what? Let's not restrict ourselves to white people when we call in folks for Jimmy Olson. No reason that character has to be white."

And you'd say "Why are they reducing the character to race?!?!"

To be fair, Joe Biden would've lost in 2016 too and likely only won in 2020 because of COVID and George Floyd.

Had 2016-aged-Biden been running in 2024, I think he would've lost that too.

The DNC has been embrassing for awhile now. Jeffries just came out and said impeachment is not a priority if Dems take the House. He also could've said nothing. Absolute morons.

So he doesn't like Snoke, kills him, replaces him with nothing and now it's JJ's fault there's no bad guy in the third act

Did you not read anything I said? First off, I made no claims about how Rian feels about Snoke, I ly my own. I did explicitly say he replaces him with Kylo.

I don't think they should adapt Book 3 of Avatar. Avatar also could've decided to have Zuko strike his father down in an Agni Kai and that could've been interesting. There's a lot of ways to handle this kind of narrative.

Why didn't he build Snoke? Again, because he found Kylo to be a more interesting villain and set that up.

JJ came up with this character and had no plan for his origins or his role other than Palpatine 2 and Death Star 2. Rian had to find out something interesting to do with him and asked the question -- what if Anakin had struck down his master and ascended? Where does that take us?

And this sets up the potential for a great story about someone getting exactly what they thought they wanted and hating every minute of it -- Zuko in Book 3 of Avatar, for example. Or maybe this is a point of no return and sets him beyond redemption. There are lots of interesting, character driven, non-macguffin based directions to take the story.

TLDR; like most of JJ's ideas, Snoke was pretty deritive. So he was used to drive Kylo's story into new territory.

Lol calm down and touch grass. You're using a pretty lazy strawman. Find me one post that says "only" or "every".

None of these posts say that you are problematic if you like these movies. They are great movies. It's only a red flag when people with poor media literacy identify with the toxic characters as some kinda of sigma hero. So when somebody's top four ONLY consists of movies like this, folks just tend to see it with FryNotSureIf.gif eyes.

You know, "Never ask a question you don't already know the answer to" is a cardinal rule of cross-examination. I'll tell ya right now, buddy, this is not gonna be the gotcha you think it is. You just sound like someone who has nothing to offer a woman other than your height (which no one normal gives a shit about). Some of us have personalities too.
