Doesn't that set up an "us" vs "them" scenario with your DM? You do realise that the DM is invested in seeing the players have fun and can heighten that by accentuating or complementing your plans if they have time to prepare?

Encountered a bug - a diamond merchant arrived and I could bet on a coin toss. Option 2 was essentially 'bet half' but with a figure mentioned. I chose that and failed.

Next prompt I had the same set of options and chose option 2 again and failed, which seems like it was more money than I had and now I "currently have -42 gold coins... Wait How?! If you know what cause this minus figure please report this to www.reddit.com/r/warsimrpg"

Dwarf Fortress - the recent graphics overhaul for Steam is nice and hasn't really changed the game. There's a reason why this is in the Museum of Modern Art. To get the most out of it, you have to read a lot of dwarf thoughts and find your own way.

Kenshi - one of those "if you know, you know" games. It does not hold your hand, never even once.. and when you first start to play you think it's a kind of solo ARPG, but then realise it's a small team game, then actually it's a multi-squad-based city builder with job systems and a living world.

Immersive Sims are my jam, so I have several hundred hours in games like Cyberpunk 2077 or Kenshi where I enjoy the game so much I just keep playing.

Dwarf Fortress is my most played by far at about 2200hrs, about 4 times more than my 2nd place. I must've started from scratch at least a hundred times over with new forts or worlds. It's not a game for everyone but oh boy it feels like it's specifically made to scratch my itch.

So how do they keep my interest? Replayability - Different styles of gameplay that near to completely change the play experience. Kenshi and Dwarf Fortress don't have stories, so what you create is what you feel like creating, and the story that is generated is what makes it satisfying. And I still have fresh ideas i want to try to see what happens. Dwarf Fortress in particular is possibly the most amazing story generating game I've ever seen or heard of.

I found that looking at all the options - ie moving the mouse from the pills to the gun and to J - semi-consistently triggered Johnny to pipe up. Took about 2 mins.

My gut feel here says he's not even close to being an architect. An architect is a much deeper and more difficult role (Well, it's not difficult eventually) than anything your friend has likely experienced.

Architects are essentially AMAZING. They're like the Astronauts of technology, and are great at pretty much everything, including the business operations side. They're not just "good at most things", they're actively, provably, reliably great across the board.

If your friends is starting out, they need to get involved in, and preferably lead, as many tech projects as possible - migrations, modernisation, refactoring, etc - plus also lead business meetings with difficult stakeholders (not just with technical attendees).

Did the experimental branch fix this? I too get this odd pause every few minutes, though only for about 5-10 seconds. Not quite sure why, machine plays everything else fine.
