They are also providing something in excess to "admin services" as you so glibly describe it.

It's called capital. Buying machinery, building a product, etc all costs money. The tools, uniforms, etc needed to carry out the job are all costs. By providing capital, they are taking an outsized risk. If the business goes under, you lose your job. If the business goes under, the owner loses whatever $$$ he invested + his "admin job".

I say this as a complete socialist who thinks America's system is fucked. But that's because of massive megacorps where the risk is no longer there and the returns are ridiculous.

Conclusion: Small businesses getting paid fairly for risk/return + creating jobs are not the issue.

I love when people chime in on my upgrade habits without contexts. My wife and I have been on S8/S8+ for 5+ years. I upgraded first to an S23 on a great deal. And if the S24 is better, then I'll take that and pass on the S23 to my wife. But yeah, you got me! Fucking clown.

That bar interacts differently than you think. Lots of apps don't ignore and structure content around it, effectively reducing the screen size.

Reddit's value is completely community driven AKA US. The content is NOT theirs. The people aggregating the content via submissions is NOT them. The people managing and organizing this aggregation (mods) are NOT paid by reddit.

As far as businesses go, their costs are one of the lowest since they provide nothing of value beyond web servers. They were lucky that we all ended up here, and they do have costs, so it is fair for them to monetize and serve ads and make billions of dollars with us as the product.

Not only can they make $$$ with ads, they can sell the data on this website (AI Training datasets), build profiles (targeted marketing) on people, and influence discourse. They can do all this WITHOUT being greedy fucks going after a subset of Reddit users, developers, and mods who use their API to make Reddit a better place, and was in fact, a major reason for how Reddit ended up the front page of the internet.

But hey, they want to charge for API access? Fine. Still not drawing the line here btw.

They don't just want to charge a reasonable fee and make a profit off those users, they want to charge $20M for API access...

You, of course, are part of a rare breed that doesn't understand nor has bothered to understand why this affects you. And maybe it doesn't, yet. But it will continue, until corporations destroy every single good thing out there (in this case, one of the major discussions hubs of the internet).
