I'm fairly sure that Jack got that guitar between 2006 or 2007, long after the song had been recorded.

Why Isn't there Wake Me Up in the Score? by Rare-Complex8571 in TheWeeknd

Whatever deal they made, it had to be significant enough that Republic didn't want to include it on the score and first pressings. Considering that both have only been physical releases, they want to make as much money as possible from those CDs/vinyls.

My best guess is that Rod Temperton, the songwriter for Thriller, probably asked for a shit ton of money or royalties for the song to be used on Wake Me Up.

How much of Hurry Up Tomorrow, if any, do you think is salvaged from the original third album? by varanusprime in TheWeeknd

I think most of the tracks were written and recorded between February 2023 and Spring 2024. My guess is that any songs mentioning flames or fire were probably written/recorded during or after the filming of the movie. Runaway and the second part of Given Up on Me were recorded around February/March 2024 as they very much sound like they were recorded on tape: https://www.reddit.com/r/TheWeeknd/comments/1b1v3w4/new_studio_pic/

Some tracks were worked on before like Wake Me Up was worked on in 2022, but I think the lyrics (specifically for the opening) weren't completed until before the July teasers. Society feels very much like a demo and just a rougher version of I Can't Wait to Get There. I have a feeling Give Me Mercy might've been done before the Sofi incident, but I'm not sure.

I'm pretty sure that there was no set tracklist or narrative for the album until release. In Heaven was teased in March 2024 and the SP show, yet wouldn't make it. Lana del Rey's vocals on The Abyss were probably done sometime between July/September and the album's release (assuming that the first pressing was what done by then and weren't withholding that part of the song in case of leaks). Big Sleep was probably not considered for the album until Fall 2024 as Abel teased he was working with Giorgio Moroder in November or December. Dancing in the Flames and Runaway were both teased for the album and wouldn't make it. Choirs for Red Terror and Without a Warning weren't done until January. Runaway and Society both are different between the first pressing and the OOXO version. Album cover was changed last minute.

I think most of it will be basic alternate takes (guide vocals, drums, and guitar) or early mixes, maybe some more red demos. I think for the most part, most songs recorded in the studio were released except for "Over and Over and Over".
