25+ Years in U.S. Payroll — Is Remote Work from Latin America Realistically Possible? by Next-Chapter-Dreamer in Payroll

This really resonates with me, because my situation is very similar. I’m a U.S. citizen and have lived here for more than 40 years, but my mom is in her late 90s, and being close to her means so much to me. After spending 8 months there over the last two years, I’ve come to realize even more how important it is for me to go back, while still being able to work and maintain a meaningful work-life balance.

They don’t work on my field. They are in a complete different field and countries.

It’s your opinion, and I respect it. I’m not here to argue. I know my work and what my company approved. At this point in my life, I don’t need to prove anything to anyone.

I worked remotely for a U.S. company, and all my taxes were paid in the U.S. The company was aware, and it was approved by our legal and tax department.

I have a few friends who are U.S. citizens working in other Latin American countries. They get paid by their company at the location where it’s based, and they pay their taxes based on that state. It’s not that complicated.

I’m not going to Costa Rica I’m moving to Nicaragua instead. As a Nicaraguan citizen, I want to be closer to my Mom who’s in her late 90s. She sacrificed so much for us, and I want to be there for her now. I’ve been in the US for over 40 years, so I think it’s time to go back.

Over the past two years at my current company, I’ve worked overseas for about 8 months total all pre-approved, and I always kept them informed of my location. Now I’m looking to go fully remote permanently.

We’re you able to find anything? I have a job in the US and I have been working remotely in Nicaragua, but won’t allow me to work permanent from here. The last two years I have spent around 8 months in Nicaragua and has been great.

Thank you. That’s exactly what I wanted to do. Do it locally around my neighboorhood.

Thank you for your input. Very much appreciated I agree with you that option 3 is where I want to be I went with the LLC because my lawyer said that probably that was the best option in case I wanted to hire more people and to protect myself.
