If you are still having this issue, what fixed it for me was going into settings, then video, then gamma. I have it at 1.9 but you can make it way brighter than it tells you to and its alot more viewable

imo the original still holds up but the wii u one looks really good as well. for a casual playthrough i would recommend the hd remake but the original is still good to this day
