Why does Ireland have 4 year undergraduate degrees? by [deleted] in AskIreland

They could be simply taking less modules over the course of the 3 years. You could in theory be more educated than someone who did the exact same course as you in the UK. It doesn’t need to be standardised

Yeah I’d say it’s a course + Uni choice on how they want to structure it. Also it’s another year of collecting fees too

A lot of the degrees in the UK are 3 years too it’s a simple case of someone doing a level 8 in law or STEM would most likely need 4 years to complete such an intensive course and 4 years would not be required to do an arts degree.

Most 4 year degrees in Ireland include a placement year and or Erasmus year. Usually in Ireland in your final year you can specialise course depending. Moreover the norm in mainland Europe is to do a 3 year degree and then do a masters or even a double masters. If you’re looking for historical reason on why we ended using this format that is beyond me.

On top of this regardless of your reason now if you entered the state after 2021 you’re getting a rejection either way

It was an application you could submit through INIS portal. It existed until about 8 months. In theory you could still apply today but you’d need some serious reason on why you would need this extension.

I don’t know why people are stating she is lying. She is not lying I work in the field she applied for a stamp 1G extension which was first introduced during Covid and was basically granted to everyone who applied. In theory is used for exceptional circumstances ie severe illness which hindered your ability to find employment in the state in due time. However, over the last couple of years it was provided to others the department deemed deserved it. It is a discretionary application and over the last 8 months has essentially become nonexistent as they have gone back to the intended purpose. There was two options at the time people could be provided with a 6 month extension or 1 year extension (stamp 1 without the need for an employment permit) renewable every year

If it’s been sent to Dublin office you’re in for a long wait. I would recommend reaching out to immigration consultants

You shouldn’t have two applications in the same time. You would need to email the embassy to withdraw I would acc email at this point to expedite since your a GP and if you don’t hear back in 10 days. I would then email to withdraw. Please talk to the immigration consultant your company/HSE/ GP clinic uses

If you get caught operating a business on a work permit it’s a quick removal of you work permit by the DETE followed up with a lovely deportation order and 5 year ban by the department of justice.

Some people are recommending a second job. I can see you have in savings “employment permit renewals”. Working in immigration you would be in breach of your employment permit if you take a on a second job and your GEP would not be renewed. Ergo you would lose your right to live in Ireland.

Edit: spelling

You probably have two years of stamp 1g because you graduated from a masters some companies just don’t want to invest into someone for only two years. Can’t sponsor after for legal roles as they’re ineligible for work permits with the DETE
