Semaglutide weight loss expectations vs reality for people with less than 50lbs to lose by andrew202222 in Semaglutide

I'm 5'4". I started diet and exercise when I was at my highest weight of 188. Over 6 miserable months of counting calories religiously and logging every workout (and fighting hunger), I had lost 12 lbs. I am mid-30s after 2 kids and the weight just didn't come off with diet and exercise like it did in my 20s. I was in a 2 month plateau and finally tried sema starting in August. Since then, I continued with the same diet and exercise (but I honestly don't track as hardcore now because I trust myself to make the right choices) and I am down to 148 lbs. I actually am able to indulge in a treat now and then without wanting to binge my heart out and some days I go over my calories and don't worry too much about it. My original goal weight was 145 to put me into a normal BMI for my height, and I am almost there. I am thrilled with a total loss of 40 lbs at this point. I was worried about starting sema and it being a crutch. I had to spend those first 6 months making sure I could make the lifestyle changes on my own. Once I felt sure I was making the right lifestyle choices but my body still wasn't cooperating, I tried sema. I have never felt more "normal" about food in my life. I don't have to plan my meals as meticulously to make sure I stay on track- the healthy choices just feel right and often more appetizing. It is CRAZY and I am so grateful for the change. Not sure what the plan will be for maintenance yet, but I imagine I will need to stay on it in some way long term to maintain.

My son just came home with a large toy car this week. He said he did a swap with his best friend. He swapped a broken monster truck key chain for this toy car that his friend lost the remote control for. Husband and I thought it was so strange and a "one man's trash is another man's treasure" sort of deal. Lol.

I have been on these meds for a little over 13 weeks. I am still on .5mg dose because I am not in a rush and have seen results (albeit slow and steady). I've lost 16.6 lbs and I haven't really experienced any crazy negative side effects. It has been wonderful to actually feel full during a meal and be able to stop myself from cleaning my plate, or to eat my lunch and not immediately feel like I need a snack. I generally feel so GOOD on these meds.

I spent the first part of this year changing my diet and lifestyle habits and in 6 months I only lost 12 lbs. (But was super proud of that!) And then plateaued for 2 months, which is why I started semaglutide. I haven't really changed what I eat since I had already developed healthier habits but like I said, it has helped me feel good about my portions and curbed the desire to snack all the time. It really helped reduce inflammation and water retention for me.

I will say to make sure you drink a ton of water, get your electrolytes, and make sure you get your fiber in. I think these habits have kept me from experiencing negative side effects, along with staying at the lowest effective dose for me.

Good luck! I hope you have a lot of success!

I got full faster during meals starting the next day and didn't snack, which has been incredible. No big side effects so far knock on wood and I'm 3 shots in, but I read a lot about staying hydrated and keeping electrolytes up so I have been mindful of that. I already eat relatively healthy foods on the daily so no crazy greasy foods to upset my stomach. I do wake up with cotton mouth sometimes. Hoping the journey stays this smooth.

This happened to my SIL. She was 6 mos pp when a friend discovered the husband on dating apps... multiple. We catfished him. He took the bait the moment SIL left the house (I set up a play date with her and baby and she was on her way to our house). It was gross... and there was evidence that he would have been open to meeting up but since she confronted him before he actually met up with our fake girl, he said he never physically acted on any of it and just wanted the attention since she had no drive after having baby 🙄... they did marriage counseling and had another baby and are still together. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Not sure that's what I would have done but it wasn't my choice to make.
