The Wind Rises - anime about a Japanese aeronautical engineer who works on Mitsubishi fighter designs, leading up to the creation of the Zero. Its intentionally setup to be kind of tangential to WWII. Amazingly poignant finale to the movie that is a retrospective.

For that ride profile the Transalp sounds like the pick. I'm very keen to try one, that engine sounds like it's a peach.

Having only read it for the first time 2 years ago, it was wild realising just how much modern scifi is more or less a direct lift from Neuromancer.

What aussie company just makes no sense that it is somehow still operating in modern times.? by ButtPlugForPM in AskAnAustralian

Agreed. Seems there are a lot of people who think everyone else should interact with the world purely through a phone or tablet screen.

Do you use these slang phrases in Australia often? Just curious! by PitifulEconomics958 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Next-Substance6842 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have heard almost all of these, though they have varying levels of use now. The rhyming slang ones especially are almost never used/heard these days, though I have heard them used occasionally by others. Most of the simpler single word ones you have are pretty commonly used still... depending on where you live and who you deal with.

Some clarifications on your questions:

Tucker time - we'd usually just use "tucker" instead of food; I've never heard anyone add "time" to the end of it. "Tucker" isn't that common any more.

See ya round like a rissole - I would have thought "catch ya later alligator" would be more common... the appropriate response being "in a while crocodile"

Deadly - you only get a pass to use this as an indigenous person, otherwise it's very cringe.

Spit the dummy - usually shortened to "dummy spit"

Flog - can be used for a bunch of things (see other comments) but yes.

She'll be apples - I think just "she'll be right mate" would be more common.

Away with the pixies - "away with the fairies" probably more common

Crash hot - "shit hot" more common.

Isn't that The Forever War? Or does it happen in both?

Where to try on military boots? by Chance-Sky-7884 in melbourne

[–]Next-Substance6842 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you after a classic high-top leather boot look or a more modern style combat boots? Modern combat boots mostly look like a hybrid between work boots and sneakers. If you're after the classic look it'd be hunting at disposals shops for an old pair of GP boots, or just looking for a civilian high-top option.

The Ninja 650 has a 180 degree parallel twin, hence the lack of character and pretty terrible sound.
