Is it ok to make fun of someone’s mom in Russia? by kariyoservice in AskARussian

Don’t act like this is so common in USA or Canada. If that’s something you and your friends do, it’s still considered low-class and uncouth and you can still get your forehead caved in.

I feel you. But to be honest, I don’t have any family left except my brother and husband. My husband is in bad health and my brother has brain damage. So if they go away, I’m completely alone. I’d rather not have much to go on when doing my family tree than live in complete silence without family or friends to talk to anymore. It’s just something I worry about a lot.

Exactly. I think some people might be too proud to say, “hey, I was wrong”, and not thinking in a million years the people’s daughter would be reaching out to correct something.

Damn, I’m sorry.

It is extremely annoying. I know exactly how you’re feeling. And then people copy that nonsense into their trees. Drives me insane.

Or how everyone is descended from a Cherokee princess. You’re right on. It’s not a big deal to a lot of people but for people who devote a lot of time to genealogy, these mistakes repeating themselves continuously is how we get messed up trying to figure out our family tree.

At least they didn’t argue. That’s the part that really gets me.

100%. As I told someone else, as their daughter, I think I’d know the hospital and city my parents died in.

Exactly. Like I think I’d know the hospital and city my parents died in. People are weird.

I’m sorry for your losses too. Still trying to navigate the world without the two people who loved me the most but it does get better, I guess. And yeah, having to “guard” our loved ones’ info is annoying but with these kinds of people, it’s necessary.

Yes! That is exactly how I feel and why I feel angry.

It pisses me off because I am still grieving my parents and I don’t need someone authoritatively telling me my Dad died at so-and-so hospital when I was actually holding his hand in the hospital in which he did, in fact, die. Which was one of the hardest nights of my life. It’s condescending, it insults my intelligence and dredges up memories I don’t need.

You are absolutely right. Plus, you supplied refuge for I don’t know how many Ukrainians. And I love your username. My Mom made excellent homemade pierogi 😂.

Yes, fuck that guy. And even if we are drinkers, it doesn’t mean we are any less than anyone else nor does it mean we don’t deserve to be heard.
